  1. hey thanks ismael. that did work. when i followed all the other suggestions in that post also.
  2. thanks guys. but there is nothing wrong with the model. i checked it thoroughly. as for trying to do a methodical troubleshoot, my max crashes every time i try to render it with an override material. not sure how to get around it. i tried it with another light source, vray sun from another angle. but that bright spot is not fixed in that. but when i rendered that region alone with the vray dome light that spot is fixed but the region borders are visible. @macker, that setting has worked well for me till now, as it always takes a lot more time when i use higher settings. and this is the first time i am came across this issue. maybe it might be fixed in higher qualities but that does not explain how it got fixed when i rendered the region alone. i am really confused as to what the problem might be.
  3. looks like your material reflections are high. you can either reduce reflection altogether or reduce the glossiness.
  4. The corner marked in this image is a closed corner but has light under it. I am not sure whether it is light bleeding through or some over reflection. I used vray in 3dsmax to render this. there is only one light source in the scene, a vray dome light which uses a hdri sky image for lighting. these are the settings i used: image sampler adaptive dmc with catmul rom min subdiv 1, max subdivs 4 color mapping hsv exponential with default values sub-pixel mapping, clamp output, affect bg and linear workflow all checked gi primary - irradiance map - 0.75 multiplier very low preset with hsph subdivs at 50 and interp. samples at 20 least square fit interpolation and overlapping sample lookup gi secondary - light cache - 0.6 multiplier subdivs -1000 size - 0.2 dmc sampler adaptive amount -0.85 noise threshold - 0.01
  5. i've been trying to get my vray mesh of a house to have all the surfaces displayed when i use the preview from file object option in vray proxy like the one in correct.jpg, but the proxy only shows some surfaces like in the faulty.jpg. i need all the surfaces to help me place these in the terrain of the site, so can anybody help me out here.
  6. you can make an opacity map for this in photoshop. just use select>colour range and select the colours which are to be the openings in the jali and delete them. after that make it a black n white image with the open spaces in white and opaque spaces in black.
  7. Thanks nicolai. that was very helpful and it worked well for me. Thanks jose. but i have already tried populate terrain, but there is one problem with that. it works only with closed splines and i have a huge topography of open ended splines for contour. so it did not work.
  8. thanks nicolai. but how do i use the graphite tools to achieve that. i'm still learning max.
  9. i've been working on a residence on a sloped and irregular terrain. i got a contour map of the area and used the terrain option in max to create a surface out of the contour lines. but the surface created is triangulated and created too many poly subdivisions. trying to edit it results in max crashing. is there any way i can convert the surface into quadrilateral subdivisions instead of triangular. i use 3ds max 2014 with vray.
  10. oh. btw i am sharan from india. i'm an architect currently working on residential projects.
  11. I've been using this forum to learn stuff for more than a year now, but never really contributed myself. this is my first post ever here. first of many i hope.
