  1. awesome all drawn now how do i merge the spline to the ploy so im able to extrude it ?
  2. that seems soooo complex though (newbie here ) compared to just drawing on like in sketchup, is there really no other way of doing this?
  3. okay guys you've helped me a lot so far and i think this is my final question. in sketchup when i wand to draw lets say and arched window i use the drawing (spline) tools, using the arch tool and line tool. in max when i want to do the same thing i use connect/slice plane to make the window however when it comes to the arch i get stuck. i go to the line tools in max however i'm not able to draw on the surface in the same way as sketchup. whats the correct way of doing this? are there any plugins that allow direct drawing on an editable ploy like in sketchup? thanks for the help
  4. hi guys ive run into quite a problem when using sketchup i was able to render out the line work (hidden line)as a PDF or Ai file to later work on in auto cad or illustrator. i haven't found a way of doing this in max, is there anyway? this came in handy for making easy drawings or views and sections that i was able to edit in autocad or illustrator. ive tried illustrate for max the plugin however i cant get this to install on 2014 thanks for the help
  5. thanks for the reply im looking t make something like this http://www.grasshopper3d.com/photo/waffle-structure?xg_source=activity is that possible in max using said plugin? works out to £15 for me because im a student so im willing to buy if its possible using the plugin
  6. Hi guys is there anyway to make waffle structures in 3ds max. we've been told to use rhino+grasshopper to make them however due to work load i have no time to learn these. im hoping there is a way to do it with max either natively or through a plugin. thanks for the help
  7. hi guys is there anyway to make a waffle structure in 3ds max so its ready to laser cut? are there any scripts similar to rhino's grasshopper that can output one? we've been told to use rhino+grasshopper however i don't have the time to learn it on top of studio work so i'm desperately looking to find out how to do it in max. thank you for the help
  8. Hi all ive recently started learning max coming from sketchup however im finding it hard to get out of sketchup habits. if anyone could explain if it is at all possible to do these similar functions in max i would really appreciate it first the snapping ive heard it quite problematic in max is there anyway to snap in a similar fashion like in sketchup along edges and splines e.g. ends and midpoints and have it work as fast and fluid? and lastly drawing splines on faces. in sketchup when i want to model a window or door or anything really i usually draw said item in 2d using the spline tools and then extrude or cut into this to get the desired object i cant seem to do this is max. ive been told, and been using connect to build up splines to model things like windows however this takes a very long time, is this the correct method or and i doing the complete wrong thing thanks for your help
  9. hi guys i was wondering if anyone could recommend any good 3ds max learning resources. i have about 2 month before i start my 3rd year of architecture and i would like to move to 3ds to up both my model quality and render quality. ive survived on sketchup for 2 years so far successfully and i can use it very well however i would like 3ds in my arsenal of programs i can use when i look for a job when i graduate my part 1 in the coming year. thank you very much for you help
  10. hi guys i've just finished my second year of architecture and i've been using sketchup as my primary modeler. Since i've finished for the summer and have some free time to learn stuff which would you suggest out of 3ds max or C4D? i know max is standard however a few students in our studio use C4D and get amazing results. Since i'm entering 3rd year and need to find a job next year for my year out i feel the sketchup stuff wont cut it, i need some amazing renders as well. thanks for the help Anthony Miller
