  1. Hi guys, To start, I have been using vray for about 8 months now and pool water was one of first hurdles I faced, I used a tutorial created by Fernando on YouTube that gives you a step by step guide of how to create pool water with caustics. I have recently bought the new Vray 2.0 and followed these exact steps I have had been following for months, but it appears that the transparency/fog has just not worked.. can anyone see what I am not doing correctly? Here are photos of my material showing just a reflective bitmap, and Fernando's material showing transparent fog. the youtube tutorial is here, this is what I have followed for months.
  2. Excellent! I'll have a fiddle, I think I'm almost there to be honest. It seems that the ceiling lights (emissive) were just too bright, once I reduced the power of the emissive layer things began to clear up. I'll get up a final shot soon as I can. Thanks guys
  3. No, I make most of my materials myself, the sofa material is just a grey colour, no layers, just solid grey. The issue is its all over my image. I have since tried different colour maps: it seems when linear multiply is on it appears worse than say, exponential, Im thinking its to do with part of my light set up or GI but I just don't get it. One moment it was fine the next it was blotchy. All my settings are in screen shots above if your curious. Thank guys.
  4. Ha yes! you were right tho it was not on the walls before, until I did something to it! what do you recommend?
  5. I have uploaded my settings to help everyone, thanks for the comment Marius.
  6. really struggling here guys, why is my sofa material so blotchy and white?? I have exhausted myself trying to figure this out and I'm loosing deadline time. Can anyone suggest anything? Vray 1.49 & sketchup 8
  7. Hi Dimitris Just a quick question, I was wondering if you can help me choose a decent efficient GPU? Now the aim is that I render using CPU but this doesn't mean I cut out GPU altogether does it? I currently have a nvidia 760 but is this really the best card I can get within the the same price bracket? I'm wondering if there are specific cards that work more efficiently with vray ? Any opinion would help me enormously :-)
  8. Dimitris, Fantastic response, I think my questions have been answered, I think over the past few months planning this I'm ready to build. I am worried I do not have a decent UPS and Others on the forum have said to me its not worth it as most just don't do the required job. Do you have any advice on this topic?
  9. Ok great so I found these.. They are low clocking speeds but 6 core and cheap, are u saying these are no good for my proposal? The 4930k is around £400 and these 6 core xeons are £330... -"INTEL Xeon E5645 CPU 6-Core 2.4 GHz 12 MB Cache LGA1366 Socket" I get what u mean about the top spec xeons, for those prices I could build an additional 4930k setup and run them as nodes! Seems more viable also as I would be able to get subcontractors in to help me using my own equipment. I think my budget is no more than £800.00 on processor power if it's a substantial difference then I'll push to £1000.
  10. Need a little help guys, just cannot decide on this, so much to take in from all over the forum. I'm running sketchup 13 & vray 2.0 I render heavily daily, its a business PC I'm planning on building but I cannot decide on the above.. Some say i7 4930k some say dual xeons.. I know the dual xeons will be more money but is it worth it? and how much more? Thanks guys
  11. Umm, yes I know that surge protectors are cheaper lol, but this is my livelihood, if I loose these I can't work. I've never had a problem with surge protectors all these years so I guess the question is why change now! The thing is during all this horrid weather in the UK I have experienced two power cuts in 4 months and I am worried about my set ups getting damaged. I'm just trying to protect my business, maybe it's not necessary to use UPS?
  12. UPDATE GUYS, I'm looking for a decent cost effective UPS to handle 2 PC's and a synology NAS unit. I'm finding this quite difficult to research, does anyone have any ideas?
  13. OK guys, Just an update, My video has managed to finish the 125 frames this weekend. I purged the model, changed the directory to my HDD rather than my SSD and it seems to have worked! First ever video animation complete!
  14. Yes OK, I shall see the file size comparison, I have 2x 1tb hard drives and a 256gb SSD, its the SSD that is almost full so I may switch the save path to one of the HDD's. I think you are right JPEG is smaller but I think maybe if its the ram that is an issue then running at preview EXR will help this in some way. If I have memory space then running the render through EXR preview should allow me some more ram usage right? or no. lol Thanks for your help.
