  1. Cheers. I've never liked importing raw CAD straight into Max, too much info, especially if the architects isn't tidy with layers. Often there'll be previous revisions hidden too, and not to mention all the hatching! Looks like I might have to just stump up the fee for Draftsight. It's not expensive, but if there's a free alternative I'd go down that route!!
  2. Hello all, Quick question, after DraftSight started charging, I need a new piece of CAD editing software. All I need to do is open DWGs, delete the crap I don't need to see, then save out. Any suggestions? Thanks, Dean
  3. Looks like I'm in the market for a new CPU and motherboard, after my old board appears to have gone to heaven. Anyway, I'm looking at something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-BX80684I79700K-I7-9700K-3-60GHZ-SKT1151-Noir/dp/B07HHN6KBZ/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=i7&qid=1562773775&s=gateway&sr=8-1 (i7 9700K 8 core 3.6) But wondering what the experts think. Is there a better (bang for buck) processor I should look at? AMD perhaps? It's been years since I had an AMD. Cheers, Dean
  4. AWS is complicated, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you're using it a lot. The set-up time alone would put me off. I prefer using a render farm. Currently I use RenderBuzz, mainly because their plugin in Max is brilliant, and there's actually someone you can live chat to if you have any problems.
  5. Do you mean to find actually photography as reference images? I don't know of any software personally, but if you find any please share! Best way is to find work with credits. You can then check their credentials as to whether they're a photographer or CGI artist.
  6. I was on CS5 for year, and only recently upgraded. 32bit support isn't there to this level of degree. You can open, and adjust, but that's about it. If you have the Adobe suite CS5, you could use After Effects to make these changes. Just create the lower part in something like Photoshop, and drop it into after effects, along with your HDRI. Make sure your AE project is set to 32 bit
  7. Were you a freelancer / sub contractor? If so, who paid your bill? That'd be a good place to start. If you were an employee, anything you create whilst in employment will generally belong to the business who pays your wages. If that's the case, then it's not your worry as to who has the rights, as it's unlike to be you / your decision.
  8. Something like this http://www.hyperfocaldesign.com/time-lapse-hdri-sky-full-day/ but not so cloudy!
  9. Hola, I'm looking to buy a decent animated HDRI that goes from sunrise to sunset for a timelapse animation. Does anyone have suggestions where to buy? I've looked at viz-people, but these are only short time lapses. I'm just using the vray sun system at the moment, but it could be so much nicer with a decent sky! Thanks, Dean
  10. I think these scripts require both Corona and Vray to be installed. I don't have, and have no intention of, install Corona. Nothing against it, just like to keep Max as clean as possible.
  11. Does anyone here have Corona and Vray? I have a car model that I need converting, but don't have Corona, can anyone help? Cheers.
  12. I'd personally do something like this - Use splines to create shapes by tracing over the reference image. If it's a large area you're covering, make 1 large tilable section, then re-use. The extrude the splines, using a touch of randomness. Find a script to help. That'll give you a very good base. Then add modifiers such as subdivide, tesselate, to add polygons. Then add noise, warps, etc to distort the models. Then add displacement, textures, etc to give it the right stone feel. Should take a few hours max. This method will kill RAM, but once it's done, vray proxy it, and it's no problem
  13. Brute force primary, Light Cache secondary is ideal for situations like this. OK it's a bit noisier to acheive the same render times, but it's amazing what a good de-noise plugin, or even Vrays own de-noiser, will do. Plus by not using iradiance map you're not spending render time rendering GI prior to rendering. It also makes it much easier to set-up the rendering too.
  14. I can't see how other architects would pay for your off the shelf designs? The fees an architect charges are for designing a building to fit a brief, budget and other requirements. Chances are if they ever want one of your designs then they'll have to significantly re-design it anyway. If your designs and concepts are incredible, then architectural practices will be offering you jobs all day long. One thing you could try is to take a Non Disclosure Agreement with you for the client to sign. Again it won't stop them from stealing anything, more like a warning to say you're serious about your IP, and if they do steal, and you can prove it, then you've got some paperwork to back up your claim. The only way I could see an architect paying for something like this would be if you developed a system, which is unique and offers the architect and their end clients an advantage. For example, you might design a system to construct a metal work lattice which is 200% faster, and 50% cost savings over traditional methods. You could then patent and sell this, but I'm guessing this isn't what you've done. However, an alternative could be to work on competitions. If you win, the credibility and recognition probably out weights any costs a 1 off client may pay.
