  1. i just did that too this morning. Can't wait to see how it goes. It's hard to find the time but i will try.
  2. anybody tried the Dviz tutorials ? they seem pretty good and i was waiting for an upgrade to UE 5 to give it a shot.
  3. Hello there, it seems i am the only one having this really annoying problem with viewport clipping and i really need your feedback because it's really annoying. Whenever i import a 3D Model from Archicad (both with 3ds or FBX) the 3D is way far from the origin. So i select everything and move it to the origin. The problem is that in perspective view i have to tweak everytime the viewport clipping because the 3D is not always well visible. Sometimes i m ok with it, but there are times where the model is not visible even with the right viewport clipping slider. The scale is ok. What is your workflow in this kind of situations ? thanks in advance and take care!
  4. sure i wil let you know, for the moment i m waiting for the PSU and the MOBO which are out of stock. So i guess at this point i will wait for cyber monday and see what happens...also because the CPU is 100$ more expensive than usual. What have you bought for cooling your 3990x ?
  5. thank you, that's interesting. i would love the 3990x but i guess the difference would put me a little at risk at the moment. In the last two months we had less clients , and i have already cold feet to buy this one, i cannot imagine adding 2k euros more..My actual machine is obsolete so i struggle even doing cool simple renders to enrich my portfolio. So i need a good workstation in order to pump up and get some new clients. If everything we'll return normal i will save money maybe for a 4990x when it will come out in one year or two. anyway a lot of items are out of stock. Specially Corsair's. So i will wait one or two additional weeks i guess...
  6. Thanks guys, first of all, i realized i was in a bad section of the forum to post this. Sorry, these days i ve my head somewhere else. secondly, i don't think this is a good solution. It's good if you have to make water puddles. But here we are speaking of something which will show up only once or twice in the whole surface. So the best method that i know it's Unwrap UVW. But i wanted to know if in your workflow exists a way to paint directly a mask in 3DS Max in order to show details without importing textures in third parties software...Francisco, i guess vertexpaint is the nearest solution for what i m looking..
  7. Hello there, as you can see on this image, in this rendering i am working for fun with Poliigon asphalt textures. There is a basic seamless asphalt texture and i want to detail this texture with some patches. I am using vrayblend with the base asphalt + one patch on coat 1 and the patch mask as blend. All this with UVW Map Modifier. The problem is as you can see that i don't want the patches to run seamlessly through all the surface. I want them in some specific points. I know i could use Unwrap UVW and add them on photoshop, but then i would have to adapt all the layers (displacement, Normal, Reflections etc etc). I would love to use the textures without tweaking to much. Is there a easy way to "reveal" the patches trough some kind of surface painting texture (like on substance painter) ? thanks!
  8. Hi guys, i am ready to buy a new workstation. I have to replace mine which has nearly 6y old and more and more ofter it forces me to send renders to renderfarms in order to get it right with deadlines... My budget is around 4500/5000€. My idea is to buy: CPU : AMD 3970x (i never had anything by AMD, i always sticked with Intel. Is it a good CPU as it seems to be on Vray Benchmarks ? no compatibility problems with 3DS or Vray? ) GPU : 3080 or 3090 when it will be avaible. For the moment i would put my "old" 1080 inside the new workstation. Motherboard : ASRock TRX40 TAICHI( i m in the dark here....i usually work at home so i don't have many PC's or servers to plug, just two render slaves, but idk which one choose, i always sticked with entry level motherboards...) Cooler : Noctua NH-U14S RAM : Corsair Vengeance LPX 32Go (2x16Go) DDR4 3200MHz C16 or G.Skill Trident Z Royal 128 GB (4 x 32 GB) DDR4-3600 CL18 what do you think ? G.Skill is so cheap compared to corsair...i always had Corsair Vengeance, but i m open to other ideas. STORAGE : Samsung 970 EVO PLUS 2TB + Samsung Evo 970 1TB POWER : Corsair RMx 1000 W 80+ Gold Certified (is it ok ? ) CASE : Fractal Design Define R5 ATX for the monitor i have to see...i have to sell my old FULLHD monitors and maybe i will get 2 Dell 27 4K UHD Monitor - S2721Q What do you think ? I plan to buy the 3970x for a while, but i have cold feet...i know some guys in archviz who were really disappointed by the last Threadripper generation (2990X) saying that they had problems with compatibility, and so they came back to intel x-treme and use threadripper 2990x only as render slave. any ideas or enhancement to this list would be much appreciated! have a great day!
  9. oh my god you killed me!!! lol !!! :D :D
  10. well Scott, this might be the best way to describe a product and to put on top of my plugin-to-buy list. thank you all,
  11. Hello, i was just wondering, how would you model this parametric façade in 3DS Max for a render ? is it possible or i would have to find a good grasshopper guy to do it ? https://ibb.co/H2X114L
  12. Hi, i tested your script this morning and frankly i think that your promotional video is tricky. i run a legit version of 3DS Max 2018, i think your script is great with object of max 100'000 polygons. But i tried to make proxies of high poly trees (500k + polygons) and it crash or it takes veeeeery long. (forest pack or vray mesh exporter is way faster). from your video it seems that the script makes proxies in milliseconds while it's not true. I run a good PC with good RAM, not the best but it's more than ok. btw, for smaller "heavy" object your script is cool.
  13. We don't have many many nodes in our office but enough to understand that local render farms are perfect for still images, while online render farms fit perfectly for high end animations. That said, we are aware that new technologies for animations (like unreal engine for instance, a software that we are using more and more) are manageable with local render farms, so if we take account of future improuvements (especially for exterior animations) i guess we will be good if we will enhance just our local nodes. For the moment the quality that you can get with 3DS + Vray is still the best possible imho, so, for at least the next 2 years i guess we will stick locally for still images and online for huge animations.
  14. thank you everyone, you were all very helpfull!
