  1. Sorry for offtopic I absolutely agree that 980 is not the best bang for the buck, and 3x970 will be a much better option than 2x980. Maybe I just express my thoughts wrong, it wasn't a recomandation to buy 2x980, it was just thoughts about personal build, I've got matx build and in this case the more power I'll have in single GPU the better. As for the VRAM limitations I just think that it is better to avoid it, if there is such opportunity. There was also similar theme on Octane forum some time ago, but with 2x970 and almost everyone recommends to go for one titan x. If GPU rendering is not in future plans than I don't see any points in spending money on 970.
  2. I've got 4770K 4,5Ghz with Noctua NH D14 and 16Gb DDR3 1600 and I'm fully satisfied with this rig. I'm thinking about GPU rendering and really wanna try Octane, but I wohn't go there with less than 2x980 or 1 Titan X. I guess that with 960/970 you just can't see any benefits of GPU rendering, it would be slow and you will always have memory limit problem.
  3. I'm completely agree with Juraj, I have 750ti in my current workstation and it absolutely fine. And 5820K for CPU rendering is a much better choice than 960/970 for GPU, if we can compare of course.
  4. The outsourcing of a certain aspect of a project is a common thing. Personally did a lot of modeling/texturing stuff for different studios, the project I'm working on right now is preparing models/textures for ue4 interior walkthrough, no lights,no renders just modelling and uvs. In my experience, you often meet people with good skills but with just another vision of how the final product should look like, the matter of taste and style, but it doesn't mean that you can't use their help.
  5. Unfortunately I haven't enough experience to give any advices, cause I'm just at the beginning of this jorney. But I think that a lot of people would be happy to work for someone, not everyone wants to mess with clients and selfpromotion, personally I hate this kind of stuff and it gets pretty hard especially at the beginning, I would rather go for some kind of collaboration with somebody instead of working on my own and not everyone wants to work at an office place, so remote employment is very attractive opportunity. As mentioned above, it is all about relationships, it could be profitable for both sides, and there would be no need for other solutions. As for finding right people, I guess that all archviz communities are good for this, I personally always check the job board here, of cource in search of job- not the people:) I would like to add one more thought. I think that in this particular industry, remote work is the only right way, it's the easiest and most profitable solution, which have almost zero downsides. Gives amazing opportunities and experience. And I really hope that the future is in this kind of work/collaboration relationships.
  6. No, it is not a good choice. If you are novice in this theme- try ro read some recent topics about hardware. It's almost every week somebody starts new thread about building pc. As for suggestions Dimitris's variants are best bang for the buck http://pcfoo.com/2014/12/cg-workstation-the-pro-q4-2014/ Good luck
  7. Hi, and thanks for nice thread, hope there would be a lot of interesting comments. I'm absolutly disagree with this quote. And I have some arguments: a lot of us here have architectural degree, and if we are talking about the money than architect is a pretty valuable position, but people start doing 3d stuff mostly to have fun, to enjoy their job, to have personal freedom and choose their own way. Cause all CG industry is preety young and creative field, which have a lot of opportunities and provide different ways how you can realise yourself. More over you can look at any community gallery and you would be impressed with how many personal projects are there, which looks interesting, creative and even stunning and its not a commercial stuff, it is projects that people make to have fun, to improve their skills and to share their creative vision. Though this is personal opinion, I could be wrong and I know that in some situations its all about the money, but I hope that in general my thoughts are right.
  8. Have you tried to change IOR value? Maybe you should add some texture to reflection slot and a little bit of bump? As I understood this work is commercial, so maybe you should invest some money into tutorials? I would highly recommend this one http://viscorbel.com/shop/creating-v-ray-materials-vol-1/ Also its almost for free, and covers all the basic material creation plus some work with textures in photoshop. If you would like to go deeper there are several more tutorials in this course, but this one is a good base.
  9. I think that you can manage a lot of things in postproduction. But as for this image, I would recomend to try different lightning solutions, add details to the road and grass( maybe some trees, rocks or flowers, or just grass variations), change sky, use HDRI, you should add some environment to get nice reflections in the windows. Plus there is problem with people, they all have no shadows and light different. Here is a nice tutorial about adding people in post and you can also check his blog- a lot of useful information about artistic presentation of your project. Also check this https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBzPV2uSji-Z5-x_svnZV1w/videos the guys are definitely know what to do:) Your work is ok, but you should do your best to archive nice mood. Hope this will helps, good luck.
  10. Thank you very much, Philippe Lamoureux, that's help a lot.
  11. Hello guys, I think that this is the right place for my question. I need to do an animation, interior walkthrough. There would be 4 interior scenes (restaurant, lobby, office, commercial area-cafeterias,stores) don't shure that the last one is really one scene:) I have to do everything , modeling, texturing, rendering plus some design in office scene. The lenth of animation is about 1min. It will be a huge building somewhere in Europe, so this is the promotional project. The clients are not architects directly, they are animation studio so all the compositing part is on their side. But the walkthrough should be at high artistic level, right now we dont have strict deadlines, and it is all information I have at the time, they will provide some more info in few days. I have some experience in animation but didn't make any commercial one. So its pretty hard for me to tell the price. I hope someone could help me with the price point. Here is an example of my stills, so you know at what level my work is https://www.behance.net/gallery/22515469/Cozy-Bedroom Best regards.
  12. Thanks, it was interesting. He is really one of the best motion designers, especially cool that he is with GSG now. Hope we'll get more interesting stuff soon.
  13. Hi, don't know exactly if it fits your needs, but maybe something like this: http://www.aerocool.us/ds/ds_black.html http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=333&area=en http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/prodigy-m http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/chassis/phenom-micro-atx They all are pretty compact, silent, good looking, and with nice cooling potential. If u are interested - there are a lot of reviews on each of them.
