  1. I am bulding new workstation based on newest dual Intel Xeon v4: 2xIntel Xeon E5-2696 v4 22 core 1xnVidia Asus GTX 1080 Strix 8 GB Samsung DDR4 2400 MHz 4x32GB (128GB) RDIMM ECC Samsung M.2 NVMe 950 PRO 512 GB Asus Z10PE-D8 WS 2xNoctua NH-D15 Nanoxia DeepSilence 6 revB Corsair AX1500i Noctua NF-A14 FLX Running software: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro 64bit 3ds Max 2016 V-Ray 3.4 And i have question if all these stuff will work correctly together: 1.V-Ray 3.4 already support 88 threads from version 3.3 yes? And it's working without problem on Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit? On Chaos Group forum i saw that Peter Guthrie had some problems with Xeon v4 and Windows 10. This issue was solved finally? 2. 3ds Max 2016 will work fine on Pascal GTX 1080? 3. Asus Z10PE-D8 WS with newest BIOS 3204 boots system from NVMe drives like Samsung M.2 950 PRO ssd? I am planning to have in this WS only one M.2 ssd and no other ssd and hhd.
  2. Yes, when we are talking about Deep Silence 6, but in my second post i mentioned about model 5 not 6. In this model tere isn't any transformes things :-)
  3. To Define series i would compare Deep Silence 5, beside the two part front rest of the exterior design is almost the same even in details.
  4. I found also very interesting silent case Nanoxia Deep Silence 6 (http://www.nanoxia-world.com/product/1/55/Deep+Silence+6+). Looks very promising
  5. Juraj can You tell which mobo screws can't be mounted with Z10PE/Z9PE in Define XL R2 case? It is like i draw on case picture with X symbol so only in one place there won't be a screw or diffrent way? Or screws should be in totally diffrent holes? I think i would go with NH-D15.
  6. For anyone who want build dual xeon machine with massive air coolers for cpus here is the official answers from Noctua about NH-D15/U14S/U12S (motherboard Asus Z10PE-D8-WS): Two NH-D15 cooler are indeed a quite heavy load for a mainboard, especially on LGA2011 where the coolers are installed on the socket ILM and not on a backplate of our own design. While it would probably work, personally I would rather stay away from it and opt for smaller heatsinks or take some measures to easy the strain on the mainboard. Apart from that you will run into troubles if you must use the first PCIe x16 slot. Even with a smaller cooler like the NH-U12S you are not entirely trouble free as it would limit the available length for cards in the first slot. If this is not an issue for you, then you can either take the NH-U12S, which should be sufficient for these processors with good case ventilation in place, or the NH-U14S (same width as the NH-d15) which has similar performance than a NH-D15 at stock clocks but is a bit lighter. Regardless of the cooler you actually choose, if you are going to transport the system between different places and not just from one room to another I would recommend to remove the coolers for transport. Kind regards, Andreas Karner Noctua support team
  7. There are four producers of HHDs: WD, Seagate, Hitachi and Toshiba. I am thinking about WD Blacks 4 TB. Velociraptor has to small capacity and is loud. About Seagate SSHD I've read too many bad opinions. I don't how the situation looks with Toshiba and HGST and with enterprise versions of WD and Seagate drives.
  8. In shops there are now only Kingston and Crucial (Micron) ECC sticks, Micron in opposite to Kingston is producing chips and they are cheaper so i would take Crucial.
  9. Does anyone know if Asus Z10PE-D8 WS supports non-ECC memory like Corsair? Previous model had support for this type of ram..
  10. Personally I am intrested in maximum viewport performance in 3ds Max 2014. What GPU is the best for large architectural and urban project with many millions of polygons. Quadro, GeForce? or maybe FirePro or Radeon? I've read that the best is 3ds Max 2010 + performance driver and that nitrous viewport is awful. For later version than 2010 there isn't any additional drivers for better performance. I've read also in one source that nitrous viewport handle better GeForce than Quadros, but in another I've read that Quadros allows for more polygnos in scene. So what is the best card for maximum viewport performance in 3ds Max 2014 (all with nitrous viewport)? Which family of cards display better overall and AA?
  11. There is a lot of topics about what graphic card to buy. Can we make one sticky topic about GPUs with all informations and links to benchmarks summed up. What graphic card to buy for viewport performance and what for rendering. What gpu buy to which software, which is better in 3ds Max viewport and which in Maya viewport etc. Which render faster in octane and which in Vray RT... I would also attach links, reviews and charts in one place. It isn't so simple thing like it is with CPUs so i propose to make one big resource for everybody with diffrent needs.
