  1. Hi Phil, Sorry to hear about your firm. Things are definitely tough here at the moment. I hope things work out for you. I would definitely suggest (as Jeff did) contacting Chaos and Autodesk and try to get them to agree to something - worth a try anyway. Best of luck Nick
  2. How much detail is going into it? Is it interior or exterior? Is it to be populated fully? How many views are required? These are the basic questions you should be asking yourself in order to start working out a time frame and process. Nick
  3. You cannot network render from 32bit to 64bit. Your servers need to be running the same as your desktop
  4. Have to agree with Jeff....Pointless! IMO - It's kinda like creating a solution to a problem that doesn't exist. Do you know any professionals that would film using a DLSR? Nick
  5. Love the photos - cheered me up no end on this dull day in Dublin:D
  6. I think whichever shot you choose would benefit from reducing the reflection on the cabinets. IMO they are way too reflective and its distracting from the scene. I would also agree about the centre light Regards Nick
  7. just make sure if you are network rendering that the network is also on 64bit.
  8. Ah the QMS - Quaslity Management System! - We had to write one recently for a government tender. Initially thought it would be a couple of pages - ended up being over 30!! Good luck with it however one thing I would say is that you will find it beneficial. Regards Nick 3rddimension dot ie
  9. What frustrates me even more is that the Government over here could do a lot more - take for example companies that have to let people go. The majority of employees receive redundancy and the company gets 60% back. The employee then goes on the social welfare claiming money from the Government. So would it not be an idea to help small to medium size businesses by funding them to keep people in employment and keep them skilled? Regards Nick 3rd Dimension
  10. Hi Omer, Welcome - I am sure you will find loads of help, tips and tricks here Regards Nick
  11. Hi Simon, Welcome to the site. I am sure you will find it more than beneficial. In relation to yuor question, I suspect that you will get divided opinion as some model in Cad and some model in Max. My own studio models in Cad and imports directly to Max. In terms of importing it is straight forward enough. We model in a manner that reduces polygon count and rendering time, however many will solid model. If you are not able to learn it yourself in your spare time I would suggest doing a Cad course. I am sure there are plenty in your area. Once you pick up the basics you should be able to advance yourself by way of online tutorials etc - you sound like you are street wise enough with software programs regards Nick
  12. Would happily trade the heatwave Wacky - could get a Christmas tan!!
  13. Just came across this post this morning - Interesting reading alright. For what its worth Ireland seems to have been hit just as hard with the recession tidal wave. Unfortunately our banking system is in a complete mess and the government is doing very little - well a lot of talking and no action. They have set up a Government body called NAMA to buy all toxic debt from the major banks with the objective of making them liquid again and in turn start lending once more. A lot of debate about it but two things are for sure (1) If it works we will become a wealthy nation again but not for at least 5- 10 years (2) If it doesn't work then the IMF will come in and take over - just like Iceland. We are currently borrowing €460million a week to cover expediture which is mainly going on public sector wages and social welfare - but thats a whole different argument. No initiatives are being carried out like paying private companies to hold onto staff instead of letting them go on the live register. In terms of the arch viz and arch industries, we are suffering like everyone else. They reckon that over 60% of architects in Ireland are out of work!!. We ourselves are well on the road to diversification which I feel will stand to us in the long run and help us achieve better business than before. With all the doom and gloom its really important IMO to stay positive, focused, network with people and constantly bounce ideas of one another. Throw as much mud as possible and some will stick Regards Nick
