  1. hi, i've got Vray 3.00.8 installed and i want to install latest update of software: 3.10.01. To do it i just have to download it and install it, overriding present version?
  2. So does the base clock (2,6 vs 3,1) has any meaning if turbo for one core is in both cpu 3,5 GHz? 2697 v3 is the best but cost a lot more than 2687W v3 and 2690 v3, which prices ale similar..
  3. Wow, good to now! So all core turbo is for 2687W v3: (1/1/1/1/1/1/1/2/4/4) 7x3,2 + 1x3,3 + 2x 3,5 = 32,7 GHz 2690 v3: (5/5/5/5/5/5/5/5/6/7/9/9) 8x3,1 + 1x3,2 + 1x3,3 + 2x3,5 = 38,3 GHz 2697 v3: (5/5/5/5/5/5/5/5/5/6/7/8/10/10) 9x3,1 + 1x3,2 + 1x3,3 + 1x3,4 + 2x3,6 = 45 GHz It looks like that for WS the best 2687W v3 and for render node 2690 v3 or 2697 v3.
  4. numerobis . You've mistaken a little bit.. 2690 v3: 12x3.1GHz= 37.2GHz, it's 12 core 2,6 GHz = 31,2 GHz 2687W v3: 10x3.2GHz=32GHz it's 10 core 3,1 GHz = 31,0 GHz
  5. Which will be better choice for V-Ray rendering node (dual xeon)? 2x Intel Xeon 2690 v3 12core 2,6 GHz (3,5 turbo, 30 mb chache, 135W) vs 2x Intel Xeon 2687W v3 10 core 3,1 GHz (3,5 Turbo, 25 mb cache, 160W)
  6. Hi, i am buying new hardware and software for my office. I have for everything (hardware + software) budget about 22,5-25 $. I am thinking again and again how to spend this money in the best way. I have a list of things which are essential: HARDWARE: workstation x1 render node x? peripherals (monitor x1/x2, mice, keybaord, mousepad) external storage network: switch + cables SOFTWARE: Widnows x? AutoCAD LT x1 3ds Max Design x1 Vray x? Photoshop x1 I am thinking that proportion between hardware and software looks like this: hardware 14,5k-18k software 8k-10k $ Three main problems: Buying workstation (x1) based on: Haswell-E Core i7 E 8 core or Haswell-EP 2x Xeon E5-26xx v3 10core Buying render nodes (x?) based on: Haswell Core i7 4790K 4,0 GHz or (if this cpu i would buy 10-6 like this PCs) Haswell-E Core i7 E 6/8 core or (if this cpu i would buy 7-4 like this PCs) Haswell-EP 2x Xeon E5-26xx v3 10/14 core (if this cpu i would buy 1 like this PC) Buying super accuracy color monitor (eizo) or bigger screen (4k) or buy two but worst (2x30, 2x27 e.g. Dell) What do You think and what are Your advices?
  7. For the upcoming Haswell Xeon E5-26xx it looks like the 2687W v3 will be the best choice. For the
  8. I am counting costs of diffrent solutions with software (Core i7 4790K, Core i7 E 4930K, 1x Xeon 2680 v2, 2x Xeon 2680 v2). And it looks like the less cost per perfomance is to buy few 4790K and the worst solution is to buy 1x Xeon RN. It is also better to buy 4930K than 2x Xeon, but few 4790K is cheaper than 4930K. Dual Xeon RN are just so expensive that in price of 1x dual xeon RN i can buy 6 or 7 4790K RN which will give me more power than dual xeon RN.
  9. Am i thinking correctly that for render nodes I need to buy operating system and vray license, and i don't need 3ds max (and plugins) license for each node (only on main workstation 3ds max and plugins installed)?
  10. I planing to buy my few first render nodes (4 or 6 core i7 + OS + Vray 3). I don't have any specific budget, so I am wondering how many nodes especially individual professionals (like Bertrand Benoit or Peter Guthrie) or eventually studios are using, what is recommended? I am mainly doing hi-res stills.
