  1. Nah, I used real scales... I tried down scaling my house and yes, now the light does work correctly... but now my COMPLETE house is like 10 centimeters in height in total -_- Really strange bug :/
  2. Dear reader, I am using 3ds Max and Vray. I am trying to make a night scene like in this tutorial: http://www.workshop.mintviz.com/tutorials/light-and-render-an-interior-day-and-night-scene-using-3ds-max-and-v-ray/ No matter what I do, my light looks horrible! I even took the render settings the tutorial uses and used it to render my own, but stiill the light does not go far, it is like they have a tiny decay! I have to put my Lumen on insane amounts to get a little bit of light, and even then the light does NOT bounce further then a couple of centimeters! Been stuck on this problem for days and I havent been able to find a solution so far. Can anyone tell me what is wrong and how to fix this? Left is the image I want to archieve, right is my image. I used a Vray Light (sphere) with lumen of 8000, even if I crank it up to 250.000 the light does not spread out, it stays within a couple of centimeters and all it does is getting brighter P.S. I did use realistic messurements
  3. Francisco Penaloza, thank you for your reply! There is almost no postwork in there I downloaded the model (incl. lighting) and after rendering the outcome is exactly the same. I guess it is just very high detailed modelling and texturing haha. Anyways, I am making a new scene at the moment with better modelling and texturing. I am still learning but I will do my best to make something better then my previous attempt seeing "good lighting" is not the only key to photo realistic renders as you just explained to me I will post my outcome later tonight. A quick question: how can I compensate the lack of light in my scene? in the back of the room is not enough lighting and thus I get strange darker spots on my walls. I was thinking of adding a light that will light everything, but... what type of light should I use? Anyways, thanks for your answer, lots of good stuff in it. Will post an update later today EDIT: Here is a update of my current model and render. Been working on it all day. I think it looks better then my previous one, still doesnt look no where near "photo realistic" but it is an improvement I think Two issues at the moment. In the back of the room (top right) is not enough lighting, and thus there are dark spots everywhere which I am unable to get rid of so far. The lamps use Vray 2 side material. I wanted them to look black and "fabric-ish" but the result turns out quite poor every time. I am going to add some random stuff like glasses (drinks), a clock, and various other things. I hope someone can help me out with the light problem. I tried adding a dome light but that didnt work lol. Maybe a Vray light which excludes my roof and lights everything (on low intencity volume)? [picture deleted] Last edit: I bumped up my HSph. Subdivs to 1000 and Interp. samples to 1200, this fixed the "smudge" on my walls where the light wasnt able to get to. I dont know if this is "the" solution but for this render it did work lol. Just increased my render time like 15 time but what ever... it worked!!!!! The outcome is this (not finished obviously but I think it is a nice improvement compared to my last render / model):
  4. Hi, I have been struggeling for weeks now to get VRay working properly. No matter what tutorial I follow, my outcome is always very poor compared to the ones in the tutorial. I looked up "Liniair workflow" and used the settings they gave me on the websites but still the outcome if very poor. Everything is "dark" and white is no where near "white". Could someone please tell me the correct settings for liniair workflow with 3ds Max 2014 and VRay 2.3 please? Also, lots of tutorials show option A and B in screen A, but when I go there all I have is option A... Have tried so many things to get my lighting right without success so far. I will include a model in which I want my lightning working (model aint finished yet but it is more to learn the lighting settings et cetera). I just want everything to be good visible (lighted) like in this picture for example: http://www.cgarchitect.com/2014/08/belgian-design No matter where you look, white is white and everywhere is good lighting! Hope u guys can help me out model: http://www.filedropper.com/model_2
  5. Thanks for your answer Peter, I know models and mapping were horrible but as said all I wanted intentionally was learning the lightning from VRay I have made a new scene with better models and mapping (I am still learning all of this so models and maps are still not perfect sorry) and the lightning seems much better now although it still is nothing like (the way I see it) the lightning in the model I downloaded. I followed a couple tutorials for Liniair Workflow and such. I think my setup is correct now. I also found some nice tutorials at aleso3d but no matter which tutorial I follow, my scene always comes out "fake" and not realistic like the ones in the tutorial. Anyways, I hope someone can give me some more pointers and or tips on how to fix this stuff seeing as tutorials aint really helping me out. Is the problem in my lightning, or is the problem mainly in my mapping? (textures i.e. texture quality and or color). Thanks again for the answers so far. P.S. added a render of my new model and lightning, I think there is improvement compared to my last render lol, but still a long way to go I know it is much asked for... but perhaps if someone would download my scene, fix the lightning and upload it again so I can see what you changed, that way I know where to look for next time and I can learn what each setting does model download: http://www.filedropper.com/model
  6. Thanks I will download this! Meanwhile if anyone can tell me how to fix it, would be much appreciated!
  7. My last post crashed so I repost it here, hopefully any of the admins can fix the issue Hi readers, I am currently learning V-Ray and I am having some issues archieving high realism. Besides the fact that my materials are 'bad' my main problem is getting the lighting right. I downloaded a model and added the lights myself. The result is this: This is bad compared to the stuff you guys make, but for me it is a pritty nice start I think. Then I made a model myself, used the exact same settings and added the lights but the result is crap lol (didnt spent time modelling, I just wanted to learn the lightning). I know using 'good' materials matter a lot, but besides the materials the lightning is very poor. Everything is kinda dark and nothing like the first render I did. (sorry for the brightness, output gamma was set wrong, normally this turns out very dark) I had to put the shutter speed on 10 to make everything not so dark, and the walls and everything are "white" but turn out much warmer i.e. orange / brown-ish. Compared to the first render (1st picture) where white is still white and the shutter speed is on 30. Can anyone tell me what is wrong, and how I can fix this (what settings) so I know what to look for in the future?

  9. Dear readers, recently I started learning 3d development (3ds Max, ZBrush et cetera). I am totally in love with it but at the moment I a having trouble getting my renders more realistic. I watched some tutorials on YouTube, and even though I do exactly the same as they do, my renders always come out a lot darker then the ones in the tutorials. Anyways, I found some decent settings which do work quite nicely except that my renders are really, really fake and still a bit dark. The "fake" part is most likely because my materials, I still need to learn to work with VRay Materials as I have been using Mental Ray until recently but what I would need your help with is the lightning part. I downloaded a scene, and added light to it. It looks (in my opinion) very realistic and just super awesome! but when I make my own model, it is to dark and it looks very fake. Can anyone tell me why this is (except for poor material use) and how I can fix this? if I know how to fix it, I know what to look for in the future The one with the good results (scene downloaded, lights by me): The one with the bad results (scene made by me): Max 2014 file (good one): http://www.filedropper.com/light2010 Max 2014 file (bad one): http://www.filedropper.com/vrayinteriorlightingtest_1 I really hope you guys can help me out, as I am struggeling with this problem for a week now Best regards, Angelo P.S. His walls and everything is WHITE... my material is white to but they turn out much warmer, yellow-ish... huh?
