  1. Thank you Stephen - I appreciate the advise. I'll have a go with it.
  2. Hello experts, I was just curious if I could get some tips on how to improve this rendering? Any constructive criticism would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Billy Raygun
  3. I just added more light and that seemed to do the trick.
  4. I'm trying to give my aluminum material build with multi-layer shader, a reflective surface. My background environment is in pure black. When I render, my aluminum reflects the black, making look dirty and dark. Is there a way to keep the aluminum w/ black environment, while capturing some of the reflective properties of the material?
  5. I am a Vray for Rhino user and am curious to know the best approach for rendering trees, plants etc. Should these items be added post-process or rendered with in the scene as 3D objects? Regards, Bill
  6. Thanks for the response guys! I'll keep a closer eye on the Chaos forum as well as here to see if I can improve my efforts. @easy3Dsource - I too prefer modeling in Rhino but agree, the Vray results are not as good in Rhino as they are in Max. As a pair, Rhino and Vray seems to be pretty powerful and a lot less expensive of an investment. For small firms like mine, that is critical when it comes to keeping updated on everything. Thanks again!
  7. I guess I answered my own question.
  8. ASGVIS, the makers of the Vray for Rhino plug-in, directed me to this site for support on how to improve my renderings using Vray for Rhino. They said this is the place to go for visualization support whereas they (ASGVIS) just makes the plug-in. I guess my concern here is that I see very little activity and am worried this is not the best place to go to for help in regards to my visualization efforts. Lately, I'm hearing of more and more architectural firms using Rhino. I'm not in that industry so I could be wrong. But if that is the case, I would be curious to know what rendering program they feel is best w/ Rhino. Or if these firms resort to importing their model into 3DS Max to render. Your response(s) here will help me make some of my own decisions. Or if Vray for Rhino is a stable marriage, why is there not much activity here? Sincerely, Bill
  9. I was meaning, by the individual object. Not the entire scene. For example, with Flamingo loaded, you could select an object, open the properties dialog, and turn off shadows for just the one object. What version of Rhino are you using? By the looks of your screen shot, version 3. Regards, Bill
  10. Hi Sanmb, The Rhino renderer is very basic. I don't think it will allow to turn off shadow casting for objects. You would need to install a render plug-in like Flamingo, Air, V-Ray, Brazil etc. that offer those controls. Regards, Bill
  11. Brian, Thanks for the response. Very helpful information. My concern about sharing the model was for future editing reasons. In the business I'm in, clients are very concerned about having the model so they can make edits, re-render etc. If I were to model in Rhino for example, and import into 3DS to render and animate, the model will be meshed and unchangeable in Max without importing again. Again, thanks for the helpful feedback. Regards, Bill
  12. Hi Group, How important is it for a vendor to have software compatible with the client? For example, I love modeling in Rhino over 3DS max. Autocad models seem to import well into Rhino, but exporting doesn't seem to be all that great from what I experienced. With that said, here are some questions. 1) If an architectural firm hires me to do a model and rendering, how often, if ever, would I need to share that model with them? 2) In regards to rendering, it seems 3DS max is a popular software. I assume, Max is being used simply as the interface to higher quality renderers like Maxwell? 3) I also assume Max is preferred because of the many, many third-party applications that help create more realistic visuals? 4) How often would someone need to actually model and render? This seems client driven but I don't really know. As you can see, I'm not in the industry. Your answers would help me understand how this business works and perhaps, consider having a go it. Regards, Bill
  13. Interesting. Do a lot of visualization experts also do their own modeling? I was under the assumption a model is provided and then a visualization department for example, would render? Maybe this is depends on the firm? I have 3DS Max 7.0 that I'm brushing up on and I prefer / love Rhino as a modeler. One of the hardest things I will struggle with letting go is Rhino.
  14. Im considering having a go with it. I'm not a total virgin with rendering. I'm just nervouse about entering a completely different field and catching up the pro's. I can tell already this site has a ton of knowlege which is encouraging. Thanks for the response! Regards, Bill
