  1. Thank YOU !!! Happy 3D'ing.. Ciao for now miti
  2. Hello from San Diego. I am in the first stages of production and I am looking for an utility I saw used in Max. It is the objects utility, it allows you to select several objects, or a group, and rename the single objects all at once, giving them the same name. This is to avoid having objects like rectangle 765 or line 1122. Does anybody know where I can find that utility? I will be forever grateful if you can help me out. Ciao
  3. Hola, this is CGArchist and I am back with a vengeance! After a year of studying and playing around with Viz-and getting some serious 3D training from my guru, Alan Iglesias, I am finally ready to post some stuff on the gallery and would love to hear you C+C. I spent few hours going through all the 24 pages of this webboard and gathered a ton of useful info and want to thank again all those who helped me around a year ago. This site is such a gift, thank you Mr. Mottle!!! The great thing was that I found I am able to answer some ppl questions and even solve some problems!! That felt good!! I just got broadband at home, a brand new *heavyduty* laptop and I am ready to roll!!! I also got my First Freelance project...yuhuuuu! I wanted to share with you all how much my life has changed since I downloaded ColorCorrect as plugin. It's like having Photoshop in Viz!!! You can modify the map color/brightness/contrast so to have infinite variations. I Love it!!! I am sure you all know about it, but here is the link in case you want to pass it along. He also has other interesting scripts there. http://www.cuneytozdas.com/software/3dsmax/ My question is very simple. Is there a way to switch ortho On and Off when you draft splines (kinda of like in AutoCad)...can you set your own Hot Key? How would you do that? Ciao.... and I am sure I will see you around. cgarchist

    Dome

Tom- Disregard the last...I was using a "quarter"cross section (90 deg. arch) thinking it would revolve 360 forming the dome. When I used the full cross section (180 deg arch)with one side closed everything worked. I am slow today... Thank you so much for the time/input!! CGArchist

    Dome

Dear Tom, I followed your instructions and I get a dome whose inside is not visible (the outside is fine) I tried different variations on the instructions and I still get the same results. I either get the invisible inside or a dome that is a shell inside a shell. Maybe I skipped some steps? I used the Attach button under the Vertex (In the Editable Spline dialog box),attached the rectangle, trimmed with the trim button under the Spline, trimmed so to get a closed double arch. I also tried leaving it open on the top, and also flipping the normals. I am really stubborn and want to see where I went wrong!!! Thanks!!

    Dome

Thank you so much for the wealth of info! A little more complex that what I imagined...makes me feel better about my newbie question. You guys are amazing...the graphics even!!I am impressed:)

    Dome

I subtracted (Boolean) a smaller sphere from a larger sphere and obtained a dome. Does any one know a different way?

    Dome

Unfortunately I don't have AutoCAD here...just Viz. It's killing me because I know it should be a straightforward thing...if I remember correctly it was so much easier with Form-z! Thanks anyways:)

    Dome

Hey Guys! What's the best ways to build a dome? I tried lathe and also building a half sphere flipping normals but it's a mess. I will use the dome for int and ext. views so it has to be visible on both sides. Thanks! And Happy New Year! miti

    Noise map M.I.A

Hello, once again I come to you for help. My noise map (Material Editor>New) has disappeared and is now a blank grey image . Is there a way I can retrieve it, or revert the material library :New (which I couldn't find) to Default? I was trying to link Noise (it has to use a bitmap) to the first map in Bitmaps> Displacement which looks like the old noise map-but I do not know how and my attempts have been unsuccesfull. Can you guys help me get my noise material back? Hopefully soon I will be able to post helpful advice here and not only S.O.S thanks for the help! good karma to you... noiseless cgarchist

    i-drop II

Hola ~ I went to the idrop discussion group and unfortunately all the idrop web sites listed in one of the topics (very meagre list at that)were catered to AutoCAD. So far, the only list I found useful is at 3Dstudio: Manufacturers 3dstudio.nl Betonson Precast Concrete BMA Ergonomics Office Furniture Bulo Office Furniture CWS Sanitair Duscholux Sanitair Falco Street Furniture Forbo Marmoleum Frezza Office Furniture Fritz Hansen Office Furniture Gispen Office Furniture Hebo Doors/Windows Ideal Standard Sanitair Kembo Office Furniture Knoll International Office Furniture Leuwico Office Furniture Royal Mosa Tiles Sphinx Sanitair Terca Building bricks Vasco Radiotors Velux Roof windows Plus Erco (Lighting) and HermanMiller (thanks for the link!). Other links (from the Developer Center at Autodesk) might be found following the links of the idrop "makers". http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=3090335 Jeff- can you give us the link to other manufacturers you had when there was the idrop section on CGArchitect.com? Also, people that know of other links could post them here and we could have an unofficial library! I believe in i-drop, I think it's a Great tool. I wish Autodesk would put that website list together!! cgarchist

    i-drop II

Hello, it's CGarchist. New kid on the block since June. I am looking for a complete listing of idrop-enabled content websites. The page Autodesk.com lists as having a link to the websites(idrop.autodesk.com) does NOT, in fact have a link. Correct me if I am wrong, maybe I have been blinded by too many hours spent in front of the monitor-having fun too!! I did my homework. there is an i-drop topic that was posted here on July 17, 2003. But the websites listed are not complete. " posted July 17, 2003 06:05 AM -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- hello there, try these: http://pointa.autodesk.com/local/enu/portal/idrop/idropCntr.jsp http://www.point-idrop.com/manufacturers/index.html http://www.3dstudio.nl/index01.htm regards, steffen " the 3Dstudio site I had, but the PointA site has been moved (the URL connects you to the subscription log in). Can anyone help? I would love to get my hands on that list and start working with gorgeous models!! By the way...thanks for the help always and I am having a Great time with Viz!! Finally got a handle on things. Maybe one of these days I can help one of you guys!!! I am reading everything I can find on Viz (Courseware, online tutorials and Mastering Viz by George Omura). A GREAT book that has made a world of difference is "Digital Lighting and Rendering".Amazing, Amazing, Amazing. For the serious and dedicated. Thank you Jeremy Birn. And thank you CGArchitect:) cgarchist
  13. Muchas Gracias!! They sure hide it well... cgarchitect
  14. Hello! As an ex-AutoCAD user, I would like to change the color of objects when selected; the default turns them white, but given the fact that I set my background black and that most objects apperar whitish/grey in wireframe mode, I can't really tell what objects I selected. How to change the colors of selection to red? I do use the Selection by Name dialog box but it is still hard to locate the selection. Thanks in advance for the help! cgarchist
  15. PROBLEM SOLVED!!! In the Autodesk VIZ4 folder (C:Drive/Program Files)there is a folder 'Plugcfg' that contains all the foliage leaf and flower TGA files. SO, if you're ever missing the leaves here's where you find them.
