  1. Ok, now I installed SP4 for 3ds max 2016 from Autodesks website(took forever to install). It does seem to have solved the problem, at least for now. My scene that was previously crashing is now opening with a simple xref scene in it(simple context buildings). So, hopefully that was the issue, not having the latest service pack installed, in case anyone else is experiencing the same! Thanks again for help guys.
  2. I tried running the script with the callbacks and I also tried overwriting the xref scenes with empty files. Even when the scene is opening loading in empty xref scene files, it crashes.. :/
  3. Thanks for your feedback guys! I have read before about this MassFX/PhysX issue. I guess that could be the issue. I will check in with my IT department whether I have or can get the latest SP installed. Not sure it will solve it tho. I will definitely try to see if the script helps address the issue tomorrow when I'm back at work. I'll see if I can save a light version of the scene + xref as well.
  4. Hi, I've encountered this issue many times now, and surely I can't be the only one. I'm trying to use xref scene to load in eg. a context model into a scene file, so I don't have to merge it into every scene(and being able to update the context and then update the xref scene in my scene files). Basic workflow. I've previously worked in a studio where we based our workflow on this with succes. This was with 3ds max 2015. Now I'm working with 3ds max 2016 and this is no longer possible because when I have saved a scene file that contains a xref scene I can't open the file anymore. 3ds max simply crashing when opening the file. I have tried to apply this workflow in several projects even in different studios. 3ds max 2016 consistently crashes. Everytime. My setup is: 3ds max 2016 Vray 3.3 Forest pack + railclone(latest updates) I guess complications could be caused by vray and not 3ds max.. I'm just curious if anyone has a solution to this issue or if others are experiencing it? Cheers, Sonny
  5. Hi all, I'm having a couple of old Dell Precision T3500 workstations set up as a "render farm" in our server room and they are connected to our LAN network. They usually work alright when using distributed render with vray 3.30 and 3ds max 2016. My problem is that as soon as I have any kind of xref in my 3ds max scene the render nodes won't connect at all. I just get the message "render node is not responding". It is not related to the size or complexity of the xref or scene. If I just have a simple box in a xref in my scene, my nodes wont connect. As soon as I remove the xref, they work fine. I have used render nodes with complex scenes and xrefs before in previous jobs. Was working fine. Does anyone have an idea where the problem is? Is it because of a bad/slow LAN connection? Workstation slaves are too slow/old? Something else? Has anyone experienced something similar? Cheers, Sonny
  6. Hi both, Thanks so much for your answers! This is very helpful and explains why my bitmaps are loading this way. I will try to change to the normal "max version" setup instead of this one mimicking the previous "design" version! Cheers, Sonny
  7. Hi all, I do not work with real world scale in 3ds max, and therefore prefer if my bitmaps by default were loaded with the "use real-world scale" off. Also, I often change the filtering to "none". If none could be set as default would be great as well(its a pain to change those settings manually for every bitmap e.g. using multitexture!). My problem is then, how do I change those settings so 3ds max loads my bitmaps with the settings I prefer? I have been googling and looking at forums etc, but I haven't managed to find anything regarding this topic. Does anyone know how to change those settings, or someone has a work-around? I'm right now working with 3ds max design 2016. Thanks! Sonny
  8. Thanks mate! This just samed me a lot of time!
