  1. Absolutely unbelievable. This is by far the best set of explanations I have found on achieving photorealism in your render. Very well done.
  2. Hey CG Architect Community! I just wanted to let everyone know my new website is launched. www.nickcg.com I am currently looking for Arch Viz/Interior Design/Product Rendering work in the North East, preferably the NYC area. Site updates will happen often so be sure to check back frequently for more work! Thanks, -Nick C
  3. Thanks a lot Ernest. I live in PA. I can commute to NYC without a problem. I have family members who have done it in the past.
  4. Yeah that is really strange but the issue is visible now. I don't mean to under mind you but your Scene scale is in Centimeters correct? Not just your unit scale? Just want to make sure you're not working in meters or anything huge.
  5. This really seems like a scene scale issue. Because Vray tries to use real world units to measure light distance if your's is off this effect will happen. Either needing to put your intensity up 10 fold or your decay down so much there is barely any falloff. From what I read it just seems like a scene scale issue. If you scale down your entire scene and re render see if the lighting changes.
  6. Thanks a lot. I actually just used the paint tool in Max with random orientation and messed with the spacing. Seemed to scatter it well. I'll show an update soon.
  7. I read about that in a thread. Apparently that checkbox causes noise as well. I will try that too. Thanks. The noise in the lighting is pretty clean, still have some in the reflections but its 10x's more readable now.
  8. Thanks a lot. Thats a good idea. Didnt think of just comping the reflection pass in post. I actually thing I got rid of a lot of the noise effectively. My glossy samples needed to be bumped to 128 on some materials. Any idea why when I turn on more lights in my scene the rawlighting pass gets incrementally more noisy? I'm assuming its my light samples for those lights.
  9. I have currently hit a wall. And I'm sure others have hit a similar one at one point or another in their Arch/Viz career. I am trying to integrate my 3D ground into my scene/background plate realistically and in a believable fashion. I have a base texture for the ground but I need to start implementing grass. My thoughts are Vray proxy's to make it easier on my system. Any kind of advice as to how to go about this would be greatly appreciated.
  10. The only way I found to fix the refl glossy noise issue was to bump the samples in the materials way up (to 128) I usually dont like going that high but hopefully doing it individually I wont take a massive render time hit. Edit: I was having some noise trouble in the lights as well. When I added more lights to the scene.....upstairs....sun....exterior Tiki Torch lights...the noise multiplied exponentially. Changing the Filtering type helped a lot. I went from Blackman to Quadratic.
  11. I have tried to mess with the Sampling of my Materials/AA/Global DMC but can not find a way to get my glossy reflections to render smooth. I am running Irradiance/Light Cache/ 1/16 AA Blackman for Filter Type. Color Threshold at .005
  12. Its pretty simple to just select all, open up all your groups, then select by material, do whatever you need to and close your groups back up. Doesn't seem like a tough situation.
  13. I am trying to optimize my Vray render at the moment. I find that my reflections are pretty noisy where I dont want them to be. I have attempted to play with the sampling/type of AA/and glossy samples in the materials. I'd like to get smooth reflections without destroying my render times. Any other settings to check I'd greatly appreciate it.
  14. I appreciate the response. I'll look into those studios. I have a friend that works at The Visual House in NYC as well. Freelance would be good but I'd like to land a steady job. If I have to freelance I absolutely will. Once I have more pieces done I will be posting a website with work. Thanks again.
  15. I am brand new to the cgarchitect community. I'd like to say hi. I have been a 3D artist for 5+ years working in military training and simulation. I recently left that field down in Orlando to pursue better opportunities in the north east. (PA, NJ, NYC). I am really looking for some guidance from the community on this one. I have been looking around but would like to know a list of studios/firms in the New York City area that are in this industry. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! P.S. I will also be posting some renders on the forums for review and critiques from now on. You should be seeing me around these parts more often
