1. The diffused and bump are the same configuration but separate, the bump is set up as a B&W only file. I like your Idea about changing the decimal points; I forget it ignores my inputs if they are to small. Thanks Ismael, That’s what I needed to know.
2. I have downloaded the zip file. My question is in which folder in max do you put the files? it does not come with an installer and to have access to it in side of max I am assuming it needs to go to a specific folder?
3. Thanks! This looks great, and is what I needed. Question, I have also downloaded the MultiTexture Map, but I don’t know where to put these files. Do I create a folder for the DLT files and put them in the max 12 file folder?
4. xEndlessxUrbiax, I tried that too (seting it to 0.001).. Peter, all I had to get this project done so i modeled the grout line on the floor and got rid of the tiles mapping setting. Thanks all
5. Peter M. Gruhn There is a copy of the tiles in the bump slot setup for bump only. andrescr, Turning off the real world units make the grout a little smaller, but created other problems..still working on this problem.
6. I just upgraded to max 12 and I am trying to get the “Tiles” to work. The Grout size keeps coming in large, what I want is a thin “pencil” line between tiles. This worked great in version 10 of max but here it come out wide. At one point I had set the grout to 0.001 and it still looks like the preview attached ( in the attached rendering I had the grout set at 0). Am I missing something or am I just doing something wrong here? Is there a better route to getting what I am looking for in Max 12?
7. There are 2 versions available, a free version and a “pro” (Paid) Version. The free version is mainly for the use of building content for Google earth and is the same as the pro version. But the pro version comes with a few extras tools and you can load and save different formats, ie; 3ds, dwg, dfx, ect. The free version is good for learning the programs functions and to see if can fit into your work flow before purchasing the paid version. It’s an easy program to learn and there are books and web sites with lots of tutorials, if you need it but you should be able to pick up the main functions in a afternoon. The important thing is to make sure your face normals are facing correctly if you are going to use the models to render in max. Since there is a free version as with anything that’s free to the public there is good and bad stuff out there available on the google warehouse. If you use models from the warehouse you may have to do some work in skecthup before you import to max, mainly flipping faces and cleaning up geometry. As with any program it all depends on the user what you get out of it. Sketchucation site is a great place to learn about this program. This link is a great look at what can be done with this program: http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=33509 Hope this helps....
8. Right click on the dimension string and pick” preferences”, find the “text size” and change it to a larger scale till it is visible in the view.
9. Thank so much for your reply, I will try it when I get home!
10. Nobody has this problem or knows how to fix it, or can direct me to where I might find an answer? I know from using scanline rendering and omni's I could tell it to not show. But so far i have not found a way to do that with mental render and Photometric lights. is there something i am missing here?
11. This image is a work in progress and giving me a problem that I need some help with. This is a very small bathroom I am doing and the main lighting is the fixture in the center of the ceiling. I have started to make the fixture glow with the self illumination in MR, but when I put in the actual photometric light at the fixture to get shadows it become a big glow on the shower glass in the rendering. For this shot I have moved it in the hall outside the room. You can see its Glow in the mirror. My question is how do I add the light to the room so the shadows fall in the right place and not have it show a Glow of the photometric light in the shower glass? I am using mental render in Max 2011.
12. A scene I am looking to finish up, the attached has no post processing yet, still working out a few of the details. I would love some feedback. This was rendered in 3ds Max with Mental Ray.
13. I don’t know about Max 7, I am a Convert from Viz. But I would say so far I can see a lot of improvements from my earlier versions of Viz in the basic functions (Polys and materials for example). The biggest change from max 9 to 10 is the interface and that will take some getting use to if you’re not familiar with the Microsoft ribbon concept used in there newer programs like word or as used in autocad version 9,10. I am still getting up to speed in max 10, I got a new board for my machine a week ago and it so far has worked great! By the way I ended up getting the “Quadro FX580”. The main reason was the power requirements for the other boards, my computer would not be able handle them. Thanks all for your help.
