  1. Thanks, Francisco! The Tutorial will help, because I was using stone age methods comparing to that. However, I had been taught such method in school few years ago, but back then I was not paying attention, so here I am I might have another question, but I will give it a try Or maybe, if you have any advice right away, bring it on. So the branches and detail is also present on darker backgrounds of the image. So, how do I make a contrast over these areas in order to select the hair (or branches) in this case?In the attached photo the red color represents the problem are where I have to cut out the detail, but the background is dark. Thanks.
  2. Hey, I am working on a personal project and I am trying to position my render jpeg into the photography image from the place. The problem is, the background image is small and low quality (3552x2000), and there are unique trees that I feel like keeping, rather that replacing with other available cutout trees. I cut out the trees, tried creating a mask by using exposure settings and levels. Since the original jpeg is small, all the tiny branches and details are lost and I don't know how to deal with this. Please, any suggestions welcome. Also, I don't feel confident about the correct blending options etc. because, tre trunks aren't placed and blended properly as well. I could improve that slightly, but what would be the smartest way to do this? Please excuse the low quality of the image. I've attached the photo and the photoshoped image.
  3. Hi guys, Please elaborate with me regarding this issue - It's driving me nuts and I can not find the correct keywords to find solution for this on line. I have put a plane with jpeg just behind the camera to get reflections in my windows. I cranked up the reflection IOR for my glass material to get more reflection. It works when I have the single glass, but where the glass planes coincide, I have weird reflections. I put jpeg with the problem area and my material settings in the attachment. Please, if you can give any adice about this.. I will be very thankful for any quick advice PS I am also interested in how to make a plane I'm using (to host the jpeg for my reflection) invisible in the scene, but still making those reflections. In that case, I could locate it much closer to glass and get more precise reflections.| Thanks in advance, Janis
  4. Hi, Here's a s,mall update - I've changed the camera view and made the light a bit "easier" The goal is to achieve bohemian mood, could be around noon and that's a day after party. I am thinking about some spilled drink stains on floor, also the glasses should be more dirty. Would love the light to be more volumetric, but dont know how to build the carefree mood. And would love to have a sleeping, hung-over body on the coatch, but I guess that's a serious chalenge, isnt it? Janis
  5. I have solved the problem for now by simply merging everything, except lights and cameras, in a new scene. Beforehand I did a lot of things, I was playing around with atmospherics and tried to add volume lights, DOF, environment fog etc. But I removed all of those effects from any slots. Particularly the DOF, I checked the DOF slot in my camera settings, checked "targeted" and "specify focus" and, of course, specified the focus. Also, I unchecked all possible slots mentioning anything about DOF, focus etc.
  6. Hi all, There's the following problem: I tried to play around with DOF ( in my Vray Physical cam), then found out it's killing my time and deactivated it. But ever since, it keeps on taking place in my renders. Every time I stop the rendering during the Light Cache phase, it gets stuck on DoF. I dont know how to get rid of it. Just now, I was rendering an image, it was relatively low quality ( ~1200x1625) and I used the distributed rendering. The render crashed on DOF right after prepass1. Here the screen shot in the attachment. Now, all the time, I can not even finish any of renders from this file, because it always crashes on DoF. PS I also reset and reasigned rendered, but that wont help. Janis
  7. Studio/Institution: Janis Aufmanis Client: Personal project Genre: Residential Interior Software: 3D MAX, V-RAY Description: Hello everyone, Here's an image I'm working on. I am relatively happy with it, since I'm still exploring all the effects and possibilities, but I also start not liking it. I would love to have some feedback and any kind of suggestions regarding the composition, shaders or lighting. What I'm seeing, there is something wrong with the ambience. It might be the domelight with no HDRI applied, that is visible through the window. (I chose it in order to avoid worrying, because it should be burned out anyways. Like in the reference photo I added.) Because the colour and temperature of the light on the wall, coming from the other window, is not matching the white light on the left of my image. Any other commentaries? PS Excuse me for the large image. Could not remove it. That is the reference. Thanks, Janis
  8. Hi all, I am facing this problem with trees and textures - I have downloaded many plants and trees from archive3d.net and the come in .zip files. There is geometry included ( usually 3Ds file) and a package of textures that has to be applied. Can you please comment on how to apply this bark and leaf texture? The problem is, the geometry is complicated and requires a lot of actions, but I believe there must be some simple hacks to avoid the struggle of UV mapping etc. So, what is the normal way of downloading objects and getting their textures fixed? I tried to search in this forum, but did not find any topics. Feel free to share all related links, topics. Thanks!
  9. Thank you, Pablo! Not really I had the solution from you, but you certainly gave me very valuable clue, which solved the problem. I had the map plugged in the refraction map, bus as soon as I applied the same map to translucency slot, things started working fine. Thank you! Janis
  10. Hi again, Can anyone please advise me regarding the use of refraction map and reflection: I am trying to create a perforated shader panel. Since I'm trying to save computer resources, I choose to show the perforation using a refraction map. The issue is, whenever the refraction iOR is more than 1 (even if it's 1.001), i am getting strong reflection from parts where it's supposed to be transparent, but the reflections do not work at all where I want them to be. What is my mistake here? I would like to add some reflection to perforated panels tho. You see, the frames are of the same material, but reflection appears to be working for the frames. But the perforated panels are black and do not reflect light (although I have reflection color set to white and the glossiness amount is 0.7) PS: The attachment why 1 shows what it's like with iOR = 1 The attachment why2 shows what is it like with iOR = 1.2 Note: There is no glass in the background, just a solid wall. The reflection comes from transparency distotion (I guess) Please, advise me, time is running out. Thanks in advance!
  11. Hello, Straight to the point: I want to use HRDi map as my light source, but I wish to override reflection by setting another bitmap as my reflection map like this: RenderSetup/Vray/Environment/ReflectionRefraction slot. The problem is that all reflections I'm getting are still from my HDRi only. I have a panorama view in my material editor set to environ and spherical. I have adjusted ( more or less, since that's not the issue here) map coordinates and I see it in my viewport background. I have tried pretty much everything I can imagine could work, but the only way I've got the reflections working, is by replacing HDRi map in my Vray dome light with my reflection map instance from material editor. Thanks to this forum, I've got to know what is environment reflection override and am able to easily create panorama bitmaps, but please help me to get those reflection overriden, because right now I'm only half way there. Looking forward for any suggestions Thanks
  12. Devin, Sounds like you're experienced with this kind of thing. I am wondering what might not be working. I have the image, the small software was working perfectly fine. I will explain my process step by step ( shortly) and I would really appreciate if I could have some explanation of what I'm doing wrong. 1. Render setup/Vray/Environment Rollout. Here I simply choose my bitmap image for reflection/refraction slot ( and change nothing more) I have a feeling that something is wrong here, however I have the exact same settings as in the link you gave 2.Drag and drop this bitmap to material editor as an instance. 3.Drag and drop the instance to Environment rollout 4.Here the fun part begins- I select the viewport and press Alt+B. Viewport background options then open. They look a bit different from what I saw in the given link. Anyways, this has to do with the viewport, not with rendering, so let's not pay too much attention to this. 5.Suppose, I have adjusted my spherical bitmap, checked the environ option in the material editor and set up my materials. I am using simple dome light with no texture. And I hit render The result is without any reflection at all. Do you have any ideas? I went through all the process 3 times and double checked everything I imagined could be wrong. The mistake must be very silly and obvious, but there is no way I can work my way around it myself. Looking forward for any advices Janis
  13. Devin Johnston, This is a treasure! Haven't gone through all of the procedure yet, but so far I understand all of it and just could not wait to give big up! Thanks. Might pop up here again with some questions regarding this, but that was good
  14. Hi all, I am looking for some help - the goal is to make a realistic rendering ( of course). It's all good so far with materials and model. The issue is the environment reflecting on the building - we are not modeling the environment, but since we propose large glazed screen, the buildings from across the street have to be reflected. Even more - this is a historical city and that's a project on an intersection of 5 streets ( so there's a lot of different reflections from each angle) Can you please help and point out some smart tricks, or maybe lead me to other posts regarding similar problem? This is not super-urgent, so I'm also ready to invest some time for a better result. Thanks in advance, Janis
  15. Dear all, I'm currently facing an issue, fairly simple one, but I can not deal with this: I need to render a simple door using Sketchup and Vray. I can not find any decent jpeg to use as a bitmap. All of those I've tried are too small, and, even if I use a SEAMLESS texture, it still is noticeably repetitive. If I scale up the bitmap, all the wooden texture becomes unrealistic and too large. Do you guys have any ideas where could I download wooden texture that is cropped to include a wider surface than those ~30x30 cm? Es you see there is one picture, which is good enought, and then there is another, where I like the texture of the door, but it's too big and loogs ugly. Any suggestions? Thanks
