  1. In your boundary hatch dialog box, click the advanced tab, then click the radio button for ignore. Its just seeing your text as a island object.
  2. I'd use rhino. Modeling and editing complex geometry is simple.
  3. I too think director would be the solution. You can create an executable that stands alone, however the scripting is very heavy. Lingo as a scripting language is logical, but cumbersome, however once you've conqured the system you can apply it to any situation, ie web, cd, kiosk, etc. Also once you have completed the scripts for the first model, you can recycle them for any other model you have. Check this out http://www.macromedia.com/software/director/3d/artists/3dsmax/
  4. Here's a piture of me and the Boss (wife).
  5. I think also that there my be a dynamic shift in the way in which architectural work is represented. Not only for clientele purposes, but for academics. I believe if we push these tools to their absolute maximum poetential, it will then generate an industry. I have already heard of people mentenioning companies like cebas, or turbosquid. But what about going hardcore like scripting something in c++, or the other end of the spectrum like gmax, I guess I'm making both a statement, and asking a question?
  6. This thread is interesting. I have a number of similar thoughts. I also have tried out macromedia drector's w3d, and vrml import tools. There are a couple of hoops to jump through but you can get high quality models right out of MAX. The learning curve for scripting on director's end for collioion dection is steep. But once you have it you can apply it to almost all situations. The only thing required on the clients end is shockwave player, which comes standard with most browsers. ( Firefox needs it to be manually installed, but still works fine)
  7. I think eb said it when he said that the displacement could do it. Another way would be to finely detail a map of the desired ceiling and use the heightfield by bitmap command in rhino. But all that is gained is the majority of the work goes into developing a map that produces a model, as opposed to modeling it the way eb already has. So its a wash i guess.
  8. Ernest, The model is quite beautiful, and supurbly rendered! I just wonder if this same image could be acomplished with procedural texturing ie. diffuse, and bump, and I'm asking not critiquing? Also could you talk about your npr process alittle, the grain effect is very successful. Thnaks, Manny
  9. Eric, I wonder what an image would look like with only the target light calculated for the scenes radiosity. But yeah the displacement map is very successful. Manny
  10. Eric, Good detail work on the pdium. Is it a radiosity solution? If so Knock down your brightness and increase your contrast a little, say 50/65 respectively. Also make sure you exposure is set to logarithmic. The blockwork on the left of the procenium seems as if its pulled off of the wall. Hope this helps. Manny

  12. That's the problem. I'm the only one in the office with 2005. Our distributor said that 2005 was backwards compatible, dwg's work fine, drf's (from viz) obviously can only be opened at my station. If we want multiple people to work on different referenced files, it becomes a nightmenre!!
  13. I have a problem, moving drf files between Viz Render 2004, and 2005. Contacted AutoDesk, they've yet to respond. Called our distribtor, they're lost. Has anyone else run into this?
  14. I use it currently (Viz renderADT 5 ), not terribly happy with it, but it's integration with ADT 2005 is pretty seamless. But that damn i-drop matlib lacks the flexibility of other programs ie. 3dsmax, maya, etc. I wouldn't be supprised if AutoDesk gets rid of the standalone Viz 2005, and develops only for viz render.
