  1. Thank you for all your help and advice guys! I really appreciate it. Lots of useful info. I guess I will play it safe and make a pdf of my best pieces and give a link to my online folio as an alternative option. I do like Tom's ideas though, of sending it via a carrier pigeon. That would make for quite a memorable applicant.
  2. Ok thanks . How many images do they generally expect? and is it a case quality over quantity, since my latest stuff is closer to being photorealistic imo. So I was thinking I could make a pdf of about 6-7 of my best images (both interior/exterior) + a few clay renders of the highly detailed ones to show how I modelled it in max. For a junior position is it worth showing any other qualities such as a few images of final academic projects if they show good clean modelling skill and creativity, but not necessarily photoreal renders (assuming that's what the company is pumping out). Thanks again
  3. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I am going to start applying for junior/middleweight arch viz jobs and have an online folio already. Many job advertisements will ask for a pdf of best work/portfolio. Is there any problem do you think with just giving a link to online folio, or are they likely not click it out of principle that they asked for a pdf? while my website is primarily focused on viz it also has other sections like vfx/animation/blog,wips ect, which imo can always add a little extra to the applicant, but It doesn't feel right putting that kind of stuff in a pdf folio. Thanks for any advice
  4. Maybe using something like the realtek hd audio manager and go to the sound effects tab and using the bass preset? I haven't tried it but it might work . It's a bit a silly work around though and doesn't really solve the core of the problem. My bass seems to be fine in my win10 tho. check that you don't have multiple drivers maybe, could be a conflict? Or has win10 brought back to life some old setting you had? I just found this forum post, it sounds like the same issue but when people upgraded to 8.1. They seemed to fix it though http://www.eightforums.com/sound-audio/33697-windows-8-1-changed-bass.html Hope you figure out
  5. Hello, I am trying to create a simple piece of material draped over some objects. But it just keeps swinging forever and ever and ever lol. It's kinda slow because I upped to samples a little but I needed to so it didn't fall through stuff. http://s27.postimg.org/xmbl4n5j7/4444.png I have seen someone use a technique with chains before where they pause the sim and grab a state close to where it would eventually settle, then make this the starting state and do the simulation from there to avoid all the bouncing about. I am trying to use the grab state/grab target state but nothing seems to set a new state and it just keeps swinging as if the simulation is from the very start. thanks in advance for any help
  6. I just updated my laptop from win 8.1 to 10 and so far so issues. max, vray, photoshop all working smoothly. Still yet to update my win 7 on the desktop though.
  7. Check out floor generator https://cg-source.com/floorgenerator.php. They also do a multitexture thing too which could be useful. Having said that, I have not tried specifically making lap siding with it, but there are lots of options so it might be possible. If that's not an option then I would: --Model 1 lap board well --Make a material using a good hi res seamless wood texture and apply it --Then manually or using array make a tons of 'references' of that same board to make your facade. --Because they are all references now you can use this script to instantly randomise all the texture positions so they are all difference bits of wood.http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/random-uvw-gizmotm If the render shot is from further away though or your short on time you should be able to skip modelling the boards and get away with a good texture and bump map.
  8. Hi, I have an unusal problem. I am doing an interior which is looking out of a window. for the glass I made a rectangle box about 4mm thick as I usually do, applied my glass material and it all works fine... ..However, I wanted to make the glass slightly dirty on the outside so I made a multi sub object with 2 mats. 1, the original glass and 2, a dirty version using a vray blend. Then changed the id channel of the poly face on the outside (see image). http://postimg.org/image/4n9whk8br/ The dirt shows up nicely but now the outside modelling/background (what is seen out of the window) is distorted in such a way that everything is shifted to left considerably and slightly enlarged I think too. Almost like looking through a really thick piece of glass or something. From trying to figure it out I realised it has something to do with 'copying' from one slot to another in the multisub object. Lets say I used a multisub object with 2 materials but they were instances of each other (so pointless to use a multisub object), this works and I get no distortion. If I however make the other material a straight 'copy' of the original then I get distortion problem, even though its just a copy, no vray blend or anything. Thanks in advance for any help.
