  1. Hello guys, I have a question about Forest pack and 3ds max, I have recently received a file with millions of istances created in Lightwave and I would need to translate and move it in 3ds max and FP so I was wondering if there was any way to import a txt file (coming from LW with the all the instances information) in FP and get exactly the same look? any way to load this txt? thanks in advance for your help. Best, Dan
  2. Hi Francisco, thanks for your reply, but I don't think it's exactely what I need, I know that option but it doesn't show me the statistics of the unfolded textures like in attachment. The 90% of the Max users doesn't optimize at best the scenes and this issue slows down the workflow especially when you don't have a powerful machine and you need to optimize every single object. When you import a texture in Max, for example a jpeg of 2362x2362 and it's 3Mb big in reality is much bigger because you need to calculate 2362 x 2362 x4 (channels: RGBA) x8(n. bits per channel) = 178.529.408 bits = 22.316.176 bytes = 22.316 kB = 22.31 MB (without compression) which is much bigger than the original 3Mb that you can see from your browser and as you can easly understand when you have several textures in your scene this issue makes the performance worse. What i need to know is if there is any script/plugin that shows the real size of the textures like Lightwave does.. thanks Dan
  3. Hi guys, is there any way in 3ds max to view the real uncompressed texture size of all the textures I have in my scene and by this way understand how much memory I am using? In lightwave (please see attachement) when you import a texture you immediatly see the real size (which is not the one you can see in your browser) and as you can easly understand this is extremly helpful when you have to optimize your scene and speedup your render. thanks in advance. Best, Dan
  4. Hello guys, quick question about Vray for 3ds max, I have recently moved back from Corona to Vray but I have noticed that if I try to move something while I am rendering in real time progressive mode max crashes...it's ok if I tweak materials or lights but it doesn't like when I move geometry...this, as you can easly understand, is quite frustrating ( it's something that works much better in Corona) and I would need to figure out a solution quite soon. any suggestion? Best, Dan
  5. Hi Nicolai, thanks for your suggestion, at the end it is exactly what i am doing, it looks the only way to recreate the same effect especially because you have more controll with several FP in scene but as you said it's not possible to keep everything in just on FP as preset. Best, Dan
  6. Hello Guys and Happy New Year I am currently working on the set up of several Presets in Forest pack and I should create somehing like the image you can find here below. My main goal is to create a preset with perennial plants that everytime I have to use this in for example a planter or in a garden I just have to do one click. I am currently trying with "clusters" and "Match Color ID on Map" but I am not satisfied at all with the resoult. Do you have any suggestion? Thanks Dan
  7. Hi James, yes they are using the same driver letter path, to re-link all the textures I do it by the "assets tracking toggle". I will test now the Colin Senner bitmap relinker, perhaps it works better than the one integrated in max (I wouldn't be so surprised.. ) Best, Dan
  8. Hello chaps, I am currently having a problem in 3ds max, I have had to open several files from the library and re-link all the textures (Texture maps library relocation) but once I have saved the file if someone else of the team opens the same files they get the "Missing external Files" warning saying there are missing textures. This, as you can understand, is quite annoying and frustating. Is there any way to fix this issue? Best, Dan
  9. Hello chaps, I am playing with vegetation in 3ds max and forest pack but so far I haven't been able to get the controll I wanted. I don't know if anybody has experience in Lightwave which has a very good integrated painting tool where using a brush you can play around with paramenters like density and scale, do you know if there is anything like this in max/Forest pack? I have even tried the vertex paint or the viewport canvas but they don't do what I need. any help or suggestion is more than welcome. Best, Dan
  10. Hello chaps, quick question about Forest Pack, is there any way to install all the FP libraries/Presets on the Server insted of the local machine? Thanks in advance for your help. Best, Dan
  11. Hi guys, Just a quick one about Corona render which I consider very powerful but few tools are missing from my point of view. One of these, but maybe I am wrong and I hope so, is that there is no way to exclude an object from the GI, I remember you could do it in Mr and Vray but I am not finding anything like this in Corona, do you know if it's possible and how do it? Thanks Dan
  12. Hi guys, Quick question, I am currently working on an exterior shot and I would really love to add some fog in Background, just to lose the horizon, is it possible to do it in Corona, because there is the volume fog but it's not what I need, I could do it in post but I need to keep everything in Max at this stage. Thanks in advance. Best Dan
  13. Hello chaps, I am strugling in forest pack to find a way to populate balconies with some plants, example, I have 38 balconies but when I try to scatter or paint the objects just on a couple of balconies I can see the cloud point meshes, the others are completly empty even if I play with scale and density, any suggestion? Thanks in advance. Dan
  14. Hello Guys, I have just noticed a guy on Linkedin who posts on his profile visuals from Dbox, Brick Visual etc... without give the credits (he has even deleted the name of the company), I don't know you but this kind of stuff piss me really off, should I report his name? Thanks Dan
