  1. I have recently read that max render times are improved by using uncompressed files (tiff's, bitmaps) for material maps rather than using a compressed file such as jpeg. However it also stated that using uncompressed files slowed down the material editor and scene, obviously as it has to process larger files. Has anyone had any experience with this file dilema as i am going to working on some pretty huge files and want the best results. Many thanks
  2. Thanks brian, i have downloaded the trail version of real flow and i agree that it is probably going to be abit overkill, but the flowing water may become a close up feature of the animation depending how well i can get it to work, I will give Pflow ago and see where i get. Thanks again
  3. I am trying to achive a realistic feature in a high end lobby area for an animation. I aim to have a small pool with water running down a 2 metre wall into the pool the, scene will have some soft lighting behind the water, which i would like the effects of to be affected by the water. My initial thoughts were real flow or reator with particles within max 8, i will be using max 8 for the scene and combustion for the compositing, just wondered if anyone had any ideas tips or trick on how this effect is best achieved?
  4. Thanks for the replys guys, i have started to have a go at the particle method and i think i can get it to work. I have never used proxies, how do they work? The effect is only for a single tree so i am not too worried about polygon counts or render times!
  5. Does anyone have any suggestions on the best advised way to animate leave's falling off a tree at a medium/high level of detail? I am using Onyx trees and have the full plug-in to max 8, I am also going to animate the wind so I will need a relatively high level of control over the fall. Any suggestions or references to similar works would be much appreciated Many thanks Matt
