  1. I am using max and vray alongwith compositing and post-production as well. As far as Max is concerned, if you wana run CAD applications, keep in mind that they will not run in mac UI till you have installed bootcamp. I have MAC Book Pro. I am using windows and MAC both on it. Problem is that, if I need to use MAx and vray, I have to swtich to WinXP. For the first time use, I faced a problem. We have 2 windows here, 32 bit and 64-bit. My Boss just simply gave me this MAC Book pro, as his son simply left it and baught a new Laptop so i was happy to get it without demand. Problem here is with bootcamp. I installed my windows 64 on it and when i ran the bootcamp, it didnt work. I was starving to get drivers for mac but it is only possible through bootcamp. Keep in mind, if you wana get the best performance from mac, use 64-bit. but bootcamp doesnt support it. I have to switch back to windows 32-bit, installed at all fine but another problem. When i installed Adobe CS3 Master collection, to post-process my rendered animations, CS3 didnt run. another headache was to get another licensed copy for MAC based windows. so bear in mind. if you wana get performance from MAC, you cannot run xp-64. but if you wana enjoy life, you can get it. its really virus, problems etc but it has issues with adobe and other softwares. i have come back to forum after a long time so, may be my updates are old.
  2. Well, I have done a test or my own scene today. It took whole day for me on Cre2Quad System with x64 etc etc. 4GB Ram. here is scenario. We have a scene of a housing society with many houses (1400) and traffic. i simply hide the traffic and render the camera animation and saved it as image sequence (backround animation.jpg). then i selected the whole scene (eveything except lights) and in vray properties, i made them "Matte" with -1.0 value and affect shadow and affect alpha (on). and also hide the background (sky image). then unhide the traffic. I turned off the GI. Now the scene is that, whole scene is matted. It will cast shadows, receive shadows and do everything but it will not render as it is matted. now, selected the traffic, turned off GI. Set GI primary to IRMap (high)-- single frame mode. Secondary GI to BruteForce. Render the entire animation sequence as (traffic.png). Note: take transparency or you can use tga sequence as well to get. Now, in after effects, import both sequences (traffic and background). put the traffic in the comp, on above the background layer. The traffic footage should be imported as transparent (pre-multiplied). Thats done! I used this technique. Hope it will work for all of you. Instead of redering 4 times a scene and then composite ot. Render it this way. Let me know what you got out of it in your scene.
  3. What i am getting here from this tutorial is that, this method is fine if you have only animated objects. but he is talking about the animation with moving objects. Second problem is that, I have a scene of about 1400 houses and roads, I am animating cars on it. What i want is, i render from here as image sequence and then put it into after effects. then use Fog 3D filter there to add fog in animation. But if i use the pass rendering method as mentioned in spot3d.com tutorials, How can i get the Z-depth included in the image sequence bcoz after effects's fog 3D filter is used, only if you have the Z-depth pass??
  4. I am using Demo. Lolz. i will arrange money and buy vray. Thanks.
  5. I am trying with Vray 1.5 Sp2 for max 9. i dont have updated versions
  6. i have a scene of a housing scheme i am working on, and there are also animated cars in it on the road. i also want to you fog in the animation. The animation is about 3 mins in length for PAL (25fps). Now, i wana render the whole scene all together but later in after effects, i want to you fog. I dont wana render the fog from 3dsmax. I will render the scene and take it into after effects and then apply fog filter in afeffects. therefore, Z-depth should be rendered in the animation. I use image sequence. Now here is the problem. If i render the animation as mentioned in this tutorial http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/tutorials_anim.htm then, i cannot get the Z-depth in the image. I wana render *.rla file. Now this is useless. The housing scheme also contains a shopping mall, and there are animated lifts in it (elevators). So, how can i apply the fog later in after effects, if i dont get the Z-depth in it?
  7. This technique mentioned, the Bruteforce method is too slow and LightCache calculation for everyframe take much time to render. Even for vray spherephade,BruteForce takes much time. LC for everyframe is also hard. After all, if it is the only way to render animations in Vray 1.5 SP1 & 2 then we have to do it.
  8. 3D animation, Architectural Visualization, Compositing, VFX and SFX

  9. tayrona is right. If he has paid for something, he can use them. Just simply attach all of tree mesh in a single 1. I mean, all leaves, trunk etc into a single mesh. Dont save them in the original file. Make it vray proxy and thats it. Place instances with a little bit transform variations. it will decrease your render time. Try to increase CPU and ram, and if you cannot, manage the RAM from vray from static to dynamic.
  10. arnold, I need system with Dual processor so that i would create, animate and render fast.
  11. i have considered the macpro, but can you guys mention the model of Boxx? which model? but be sure, it should be intel based processor not AMD because we live in hot lands not cold regions.
  12. I prefer and suggest to use xp64-bit. I have tried vista 64. Although it has DX10 but it also conflicts with DX applications such as max etc. If you want to run your project smooth and dont want to lose your work and stuck, just believe on xp-64. Vista 64 is only for kids not for professional. It is more than a bug for professionals. and it will make you what u want to be so hate vista and go for XP
  13. Dear Geeks I need to buy a new high end 3D workstation for working on max and vray. Budget is not an issue because my boss is happy from my performance and winning the last contest so, its time to put some NOS in my cars. I need high end 3D workstation to work. I will buy 4 rendering system which will be dual core but that is not an issue, just wana buy a branded (if after sale service is good) otherwise, if i make my own unbranded workstation, plz leme know about the processor number and motherboard as well as memory and storage in detail. Thanks all.
  14. I m using max 9 64bit with vray 1.5SP1. My scene is an interior walk-though animation. It has many IES Lights and vray lights as it should. Using IRMap and Brute force, I got nice results with override material. After placing lights, GI is creating problem, even after turning off. I have turned off the GI completely to see the result of lights only, not the GI. The vray is calculating GI Passes just like it is on but it is off. and when i turn on the GI, IRMap passes go to 6 passes and then render. GI calculation of 6 passes takes an hour and then renders the final image. Although i tried to save the multiframe incemental and then load the IRMap to render, Even after reloading the saved IRMap, to render final image, it still calculates the GI and that is the problem for me. Please! help because I m on tight deadline and GI is playing with me.
