  1. Great info thanks numerobis! Interesting situation on Windows 10 upgrades too.
  2. Hi Folks, I have gone through the process of sorting out my render node which i haven't used since vray started charging for node licenses. Anyway I bit the bullet after deciding against a new machine and have already spent way too much money for only 8 extra buckets but am now in too deep. The latest expense which i didn't foresee is that max 2015 doesn't seem to run with vista. Great so new OS! (After a day wasted reformatting and re installing vista). My understanding is that its best to run the same OS as main machine which is Windows 7 ultimate. To be honest I never had a problem rendering to a vista machine on previous 3dsmax versions so I am wondering whether I can just get a cheapo version of Windows 7 instead? Home ideally for ££ or pro if necessary? Another factor: I don't mind forking out for Windows 7 Ultimate but am keen to know how much life is left in this product. I will build a new machine fairly soon and ditch the rendernode and can use the OS again but Windows 7 has been around for a while now. How much life can I/we reasonable expect out of this product? Sorry for the rambling, Any insight appreciated!
  3. Hi Dean, I was just wondering if you were still happy with the Acer you purchased? Its currently £900 but did you have to add on the second harddrive? I might be on the road a few months next year and was looking for something I could work on. Screen size ok? Have you done much rendering? Any feedback is much appreciated. Jan
  4. If any one needs to know 3 x KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX (2 x 4GB units in each) is working fine
  5. Thanks Jason, Windows 7 Ultimate. Will try Asus though tried and tested is often more successful so I thought I would try here first. Cheers Jan
  6. Hi Jason, On paper this should be OK, but I've yet to find a link on-line to anyone other than those who have had problems. eg: http://rog.asus.com/forum/showthread.php?1535-Rampage-III-Extreme-24gb-Ram-Help-please
  7. Hi all, As this mobo was recommended a while back on one of Andrews lists I thought I might as well ask the question here as I haven't found my answers elsewhere. Basically the title says it all. Has anyone been able to run 24GB ram on the Asus Rampage III Extreme? Really don't want to have to replace my motherboard in order to upgrade memory (Currently 12GB) Many thanks!
  8. Problem solved, the multiscatter install hadn't worked on the slave machine. I deleted all .dlos and reinstalled and now it's working fine.
  9. Hi all, I sure there is something obvious I've missed but I can get my slave machine to render my multiscatter proxies via DR I have set up multiscatter on my slave machine and all the proxies and materials are properly UNC ' d. Everything else is distributing apart from the multiscatters. Any ideas? Many thanks Jan
  10. Thanks Jon, Will be holding out for paying that much now. I hope I can find someone.
  11. Thanks Jim, I registered as soon as I got back into the UK (April-ish) Matt, I was going to get in contact with an accountant through a friend of mine but I think he/she charges £450 a year. £250 to me sounds fantastic. I'm in your neck of the woods so would appreciate any details if possible (Fully understand you may not want to if its a private contact) Having never dealt with an accountant before I'm unsure about reliability and I'm sure there must be a fair few jokers out there. As with anything any recommendations are worth their weight in gold.
  12. Thanks Matt, I was thinking I might have to take that route, but wanted to get my head around some of the possibilities before I approached anyone. Does your accountant have a set rate for running through and helping you complete your return? I don't suppose you have any recommendations? Cheers
  13. I'm sure there is some useful information about tax in the forums somewhere but my searches haven't been very successful. If someone could point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. This is my first year of freelancing within the UK and therefore of self employed tax payment. I cant say its been the most productive year and I definitely haven't been putting enough aside so am looking to rectify matters before its too late. One thing that might help is writing off computer and software costs as capital allowances. Has anyone any experience in doing this? Also, is it worth forking out on any extra hardware or software that I've been putting off buying before the end of the tax year and how much of the purchases could I write off? Many thanks
  14. Haha, many thanks. Will probably stick to the 1000W for the time being and save some pennies.
