  1. We use to populate our exterior 3D scenes with people that are real photos of people walking by the street. But I don't like much this method, as sometimes for example the sun doesn't come in the right direction. I can see that other competitors companies use 3D people. These 3D people have improved a lot lately, as they looked like mannequins only few years ago, and now they look much more realistic. What 3D people package do you recommend me? I'd like to purchase a package including several figures, rather than purchase them one by one, that I think it's much more expensive. Mostly just people walking by the street, and perhaps also people wearing swimwear, for swimming pool views. Thanks!
  2. I had recently to reset 3DS MAX settings, and now I can’t do something that I did before. When I work in wireframe mode, I can’t select objects (such as a box or plane) by clicking on the “diagonals” (you know, the dotted lines that you can see when you disable “Edges only” in the object properties). I can, obviously, select them by clicking on the borders, but not in the diagonals. Any help?
  3. Hi Andrea. Warnings are just that, warnings. If you don't have errors in your scene, and the render looks fine, then you don't need to worry about the warnings.
  4. Hi Taheera I think the problem isn’t in the shadows, but in the light source. In your first example, you are illuminating the scene with a light that is just a point in the space (such as a single bulb). But in the second example, the source of light is a surface, such as a window with curtains, or a photographer’s softbox… This way, as the light is a surface, the shadows are smoother. First of all, you have to replace the light in your scene with a VRay light with a rectangular shape (or a disc). For example, a light with a size of 0,50x0,50m. You can test different sices and different intensities. Then, you can deal with the parameters of the light to get a smooth shadow.
  5. Very good! Let me add something more (maybe a little redundant) 14. That client that “knows what doesn’t want when he sees it” (i.e. when YOU show your work to them) 15. The client that spends a whole month thinking if he wants to do something or not, and when he finally decides it, he tells you that he wants the work done on the next week. 16. The client that doesn’t check your work in progress, because “it’s a work in progress”, so that he delegates this task to the secretary, or anyone else. When you send the work completely finished, then he tests, checks it… and tells you that there are A LOT of things wrong, so that you have to almost begin again from scratch. (Based on a 27-year experience)
  6. Hi Ilaria I use krpano (https://krpano.com/home/) I think this is a powerful program, but it’s a little difficult to master. For example, you don’t have an interface and you must create your virtual tour by dragging and dropping certain files on certain programs… And you must also edit by hand some XML files if you want to personalize the final job. Here you can see an example. You can navigate through the rooms by clicking on the arrows on the floor (in the same way as Google Street View). And you can even change the finishing in walls and floors, by clicking in the frames at the walls… https://www.matradi.com/vr/200602altea/ I think some developers offer programs that use krpano as an engine and are easier to use (and not very expensive, as you must purchase a license of krpano and then the other program too). You can ask in the krpano forum. They will recommend you several options for sure.
  7. How did you build the glasses? It seems to me that the problem consists of a cylindrical glass with only ONE SIDE. Then VRay believes that you are modeling a kind of aquarium. I mean that, from the glass plane to the bottom of the scene, VRay thinks that “everything is glass” (like a aquarium full of water). The windows must be constructed as double-sided objects. I use to give to all my glasses a thickness of 6mm.
  8. Ok. Klaus, the author of krpano, solved my question. I copy here the answer in case it helps others: ------------------------------------------------------- Hi: When this is happening, then the Android device doesn't have a gyroscope sensor! Normally this are only cheap low-end Android phones... The up/down panning and left/right rolling will be done roughly by the acceleration sensors. But for the left/right panning and the fine movements a gyroscope sensor is required. Without gyroscope this is technically not possible. You should have the same problem also in all other apps that are using the gyroscope on that device. From JS/krpano side itself is unfortunately not possible to detect that case. Normally it should be the Chrome browser itself that should report that there is no gyroscope, but sometimes it doesn't do that (could be maybe also related to the device itself). Best regards, Klaus
  9. I use krpano version 1.19-pr13 to produce 3D stereoscopic panoramas of interiors (CG, not real photos). Everything works fine in my computer and my mobile, but this morning I was doing a demonstration for a client and two of their mobile phones didn’t work right: As they move them in every direction, the pano only scrolls up and down, not sideways. These were Samsung mobiles with Android OS and Google Chrome.
  10. I’ve a problem when doing the 12 cubemap images in 3DSMAX+VRay for a 360º panoramic view for Google Cardboard. I configure VRay to create the 18432x1536 pixels image, that includes the 12x1536x1536 images with the 6 views of left eye and the 6 for right eye. Everything works fine, but the problem consists of VRay antialiasing adjacent images, so that the continuity is ruined on flat surfaces, when I stitch the images. I suppose I’m doing something wrong in the VRay configuration. It’s clear that this problem wouldn’t exist in case I do a render without antialiasing, but this render would be useless. Any solution? Many thanks!
  11. Many thanks to all of you! I finally solved the problem. After some research and investigation in forums and old threads, I found this script that works fine: Type this code in the Script Listner: trackViewNodes[#Max_MotionClip_Manager].track = copy trackViewNodes[#Max_MotionClip_Manager].track Clic on Enter and then type: gc() Now, a file that was 400MB in size in my hard disk (uncompressed) is only 40MB and 3DSMAX opens it in seconds. Although recent versions of MAX solve the problem, my actual version is 2013 and at the moment I'm not going to purchase the latest version (same story as always: too expensive and very few improvements...)
  12. Many thanks, Juraj. Although I've been a 3D MAX user for some years, I'm not very used to Script files. Can you tell me what I have to do with this script, step by step? Many thanks!
  13. Many thanks, Jose, for your quick reply. What is garbage collector? A program? Compress on save doesn't solve the problem, as internally the file is corrupted anyway. I tried also "save selected" or "merge" the objects in a new scene. It seems that the objects include the problem too, as the new file is also corrupted.
  14. This is very urgent. I have 3DS MAX 2013 (legal) and I have a problem these days: Each time I open a recent file with a size of, for example 20MB, it increases its size each time I save it, for example to 200MB and then 400MB, and so on. This happens with the same objects in the scene. The file is so huge that my computer can’t cope with it. Rendering is almost impossible and saving and handling files is painful. Can someone please help me? I’m just finishing some important projects…
  15. Hi! After some years working far from the CG industry, I’d like to come back little by little. The problem is that I forgot all what I knew about VRay long time ago, so that now I’d like to study again the VRay manual. I don’t mind much if it’s about the last version or an older version such as 2, as at this moment I just want to get a general overview and remember the meaning of all those parameters and settings. I know that you can read the online manual in the official Chaos Group page. You can even “export to word” each section, but it doesn’t work very well (at least in my computer), as some images are missing and the aspect is not very good. I’d like to print it so that I can highlight phrases, take notes at the side... Do you know where can I find a manual in PDF?
