check out the blurbeta scripts: CollapseSubObjectMaterial V1.10 Put a lot of error trapping in. Added ability to reduce submaterials that are instances of each other. and the KillDuplicateMaterials v1.00 Goes through your scene. and will remove all materials that have duplicate names. Updated: to 1.2 Ok. I found and fixed the problem with Max 3.x. Basically. Max 3.x doesn't like it if you have an empty mesh and you call attach to attach items to it. So. I modified the internal logic to handle that. I also included a new sample file which was readable by Max 3.x. http://tdp.nu/index.shtml
