Alternatively, use SiNi Software's universal proxy, PROXSI which supports Arnold in 3ds Max 2017. It's more advanced than Arnold's work around procedural approach as the proxy keeps its X,Y,Z coordinates. More here http://www.sinisoftware.com/products/plugins/proxsi
