  1. Thanks a lot for the replies. I think it is time to go for a workstation - considering the money I paid for the BDS Premium package and its subscription cost, I should not be skimping on the hardware - I realize. Best regards PRSS
  2. Hello everybody This may sound like a stupid question. Any way, i am asking it. I made a blunder by purchasing Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium 2013 (at a very special discount - here in India) and through subscription I now have 2014 version. As per the requirements of Autodesk, for 3ds Max Design 2014, one should have Windows 7 / 8 64 bit only & with a Xeon processors & with Nvidia Quadro or Equal Graphics card. What I have is a humble desktop - Core i3 3rd generation with 3 GB RAM & with a GeForce 480 1 GB Video card. I am running the BDS 2013 on this ! (not much of Revit & Max - mostly AutoCAD) Now i would like to use Max Design also. My Visualizations - which I get done in house (I have a SOHO setup) are quite simple. Will this 3ds Max Design 2014 run at all on my system? I have not yet installed it. Will I be doing gross injustice running it on my present system? I am not giving it a trial run for fear of spoiling my existing installation of BDS 2013 Premium. Thanks in advance. PRSS
  3. That seems to be very highly logical. So the matter is settled for me. Only for the Govt. approval plans would I do in Metres. all my architectural drawings & interior drawings would be in mm and site Plans would be in Metres. (NO CENTIMETRES) Thank you for the reply. Best regards PRSS
  4. Hello everybody This may seem to be a very trivial question. I simply wish to know what the international standard or ISO standard for dimensioning Architectural Metric drawings? Is it in Meters or in Millimeters? I was always under the impression that it was MM. But here in my country, the state govt. standard for submitting drawings for approval is in Meters. But when I receive some drawings from MNC corporates, or Machinery lay-out for a factory & the like, they are all in Millimeters. One MNC (for corporate identity - they have some standardized lay-outs) gave in Centimetres (it is an European company in my country). So I am a bit confused on what is the prevailing standard for dimensioning a Metric Architectural Drawing. Thanks in advance PRSS
  5. Twilightrender which gets integrated with SketchUP also works fine (though not as advanced as Thea - but gives highly acceptable renders) http://www.twilightrender.com With best regards PRSS
  6. Hello everybody I have just cross graded from AutoCAD 2013 to Autodesk Building Design Premiuim suite 2013 under a ve5ry special promotional offer at a very low price. In this suite apart from AutoCAD, Revit, Autodesk Showcase, 3dsmax Design, etc., AutoCAD Architecture is also included. When REVIT 2013 is included, why again AutoCAD Architecture? IMHO, from several forum posts and several Google searches I have found that AutoCAD Architecture is considered to be a much inferior BIM solution than REVIT. It also seems that in BIM, REVIT rules the world. I do not understand why then is AutoCAD Architecture is included in the suite. Are still major Architectural Firms out there who use this as BIM solution instead of REVIT ? Is AutoCAD Architecture still considered as a BIM solution? I have not yet installed this suite. Should I skip AutoCAD Architecture while installing the suite? I do not want to overload my computer. I would be skipping Navisworks too). Thanks in advance PRSS PRSS
  7. Thank you very much. Your info is very useful to me. With best regards PRSS
  8. Thanks Jason and Dimitris for you replies. It is heartening to know that the package will run on my computer for small projects and for REVIT learning. My RAM is DDR3 2 x 2 GB. But XP will recognize only 3 GB - hence I had said that. As for OS I actually bought Windows 7 Professional whit the type of license that allows me to downgrade to XP. At any time I can switch over to Windows 7 Professional 64 bit at no cost. I have been given activation codes for Windows 7 professional 32 & 64 bit. Okay. If I switched over to Win 7 Pro 64 bit, how much RAM would you recommend? My graphics card is Nvidia GeForce ASUS GT 440 with 1 GB GDDR5 RAM. Not a great performer for CAD but enough for my SketchUP models. I do not know if it is any good at all for REVIT & 3ds Max Design. Again I am asking for small projects only and for learning REVIT. Sorry for the belated reply. I was in a remote place for a few days where I could not access internet. Waiting for reply With best regards PRSS
  9. Hello everybody I have just cross-upgraded my AutoCAD 2013 to Autodesk Building Design Suite Premium. I upgraded as I got a very special offer at a very low price. My interests in this suite is mainly focused on 3ds Max Design 2013 & Revit 2013, aside from the primary AutoCAD 2013. The product is on the way. What I want to know is whether my computer will handle these 3ds Max Design 2013 & Revit 2013. I do not have heavy use for these. As for 3ds Max I shall be doig occassional renderings with model done in autoCAD. As for Revit I want learn this slowly at my own pace - (India has not yet caught up fully in BIM - which is a pity). When India really catches up BIM I should be ready to adopt it with Revit. My computer is an Intel Core i3 3.3 GHZ with 3 GB RAM and an Nvidia low-end GeForce Graphics card. The OS is Windows XP Professional XP SP3 - 32 bit. AutoCAD 2013 runs quite well and also handles my 3d Modeling well. Is this computer alright for the Building Design suite for light use? Or is it going to limp even for small file sizes (or say small buildings) For learning Revit, is it sufficient? (I know it has the minimum recommended requirements by Autodesk, but I would like to know the actual reality). Thanks in advance PRSS
  10. Hello Everybody It loos like the file I have uploaded in www. wikisend.com doesn't download. I have uploaded it in AUGI Forum with the same posting. The link to that posting is here: http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?139208-AutoCAD-2013-does-not-open-some-DWG-files-from-LT-2009 Please kindly help. With best regards PRSS
  11. Hello Everybody I have just upgraded to AutoCAD 2013. Now I have one AutoCAD 2013 and five copies of AutoCAD LT 2009. A strange problem started occurring after starting using of AutoCAD 2013. Quite a lot of files done with LT 2009 are not opening in AutoCAD 2013. When you try to open this file, nothing happens and a blank new drawing is opened by AutoCAD 2013. I have DWG TrueView from release 2010 to 2012. These files opened perfectly well in 2010 & 2012. So I downloaded DWG TrueView 2013 and installed it to check whether my AutoCAD 2013 installation was faulty. These files do not open in DWG TrueView 2013 also. I tried exporting the file to DXF in LT 2009 and then tried to open the DXF file in 2013. It gave a message that it could not read the file. The odd fact is that it is not happening with every file done in LT 2009. Some open and some do not. Also tried recovering the files - nothing happened. In my opinion, this seems to be a serious bug in 2013. Any body else experiencing this? I have attached the problematic file in http://www.wikisend.com as the file is larger than 1 MB. I do not know how to link the file here. The file name is : Does not open in 2013.zip Waiting for replies With best regards PRSS
  12. In CG Architect Forums why are IntelliCAD based products are not seen? I have been an AutoCAD user since Release R13 through AutoCAD 2009. Because of the exorbitant upgrading costs incurred to maintain AutoCAD, ( and I am no more able to afford this prohibitive cost) I switched over to progeCAD 2011 Professional last month and bought 7 copies. My staff and I are finding it quite alright for everyday use and all kinds of our projects are being done with this. (We do not do 3D but we use lot of Lisp). Why is it there are no mentions about such of these products in CG Architect Forums? Are there any major hidden bugs in these IntellicCAD products which we still not have discovered or is it just that this forum considers these kind of products unworthy of discussing? Have I made any big mistake in switching over to progeCAD? Thanks in advance PRSS
