  1. hi there our office finally got vray for 3ds max, along with a render node license. The problem, is that when rendering on the node, the render comes out much much much darker than the local workstation - 2 images attached show what im talking about. When rendered with the local machine also running, it comes out as a patchwork of correct (local) and incorrect (slave) render squares. what are we doing wrong?
  2. certainly, i came on to that after working through this particular tutorial. It just struck me as odd that this was a workable solution for a blend using the standard 3DS blend. It is a rather dated tute, vray has simply jsut moved on from there it would seem
  3. ...nevermind, just learned that it only appears if the active render supports it - which is strange, because when i open a tutorial file with a blend material in it, vray rendered it just fine, even though it apparently "doesnt support it" as an aisde, the work around here was to: 1) disable vray as the active render (set to scanline or whatever...) 2) create the material. seleting Blend from the general list 3) reactivate vray and then apply the VRayMtls to material 1 and 2 and set up the mask 4) render, without issue that makes for a rather terrible workflow.....
  4. hi there, im currently working my way through some basic materials tutorials for 3DS Max 2017 + Vray, and i cant seem to find the Blend Material. Obviously, the VrayblendMtl is there, but the standard 3DS Max blend (which is what the tutorial pertains to) is not. This also runs counter to what Autodesk has to say on the matter, as they're help guide for Max 2017 says simply "select Blend material from the Material Browser", and its just not there. What is there is: Physical Material Double SIded Ink 'n Paint Matte/Shadow Morpher Multi-Sub-Object Shell Material Top/Bottom XRef Material has it been renamed? Am i looking in the wrong place?
  5. SOLVED: got a reply from them just now: "We are sorry to inform you that our Vrmat Editor doesn't work on 3DS Max 2017." literally received that within 5 seconds of hitting the button for a fresh install. Bugger...... cheers for your help Macker, you're rendering work on your blog looks amazing by the way
  6. that would go a long way to explaining it. Its listed as a "standalone tool" for materials on chaos groups page, along with the VRmat converter - which i know for a fact is installed and works. Why the editor would not also make the trip is odd, my boss must have had a lazy day when installing it all
  7. certainly thats what ill be doing, but i still need to know why the option is unavailable to me. Seeing that it leads to a UI that im familiar with is just the worst kind of tease........
  8. ive loaded up .vrmat files from the tutorial under the file button, but the "Open Editor" remains unavailable, really bizarre
  9. at this point im simply trying to follow the tutorial from chaos group regarding materials / editing https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3MAX/VRmat+Editor seemingly the first hurdle is just that the "open editor" option is unavailable to me - which sucks, because the next steps thereafter include a UI that is strikingly similar to the sketchup vray material editor, which i am very familiar with
  10. upgraded to 3DS max from Sketchup currently working through materials tutorials from chaos group told to go to "open editor" after creating a new vray material "open editor" is greyed out - taunting me anyone know why?
  11. im finally making the move from sketchup to 3DS max for rendering - a marked increase in rendering quality, a little less hair from having to actually deal with the cumbersome mess that is 3DS currently working my way through the materials, and im stuck at the VRmatMtl Parameters section from the chaos group tutorials. Quite simply, its asking me to "open editor", to get me to a UI that looks strikingly similar to my beloved sketckup vray material editor, and the button is greyed out - like its taunting me. Am i missing something? An extra plug-in or license permission?
