1. Unfortunately, its not just a simple color change. Color changes is easy to remedy with just a mask. But carpet/tiles pattern change is tedious. Rendering a selection and changing the map for every carpet pattern is no walk in the park when you have about a hundred more to go.
2. Hi, does anyone know of a way to assign multiple materials (NOT multi/sub object matrial) on a single object then render those materials by element via multiple VrayMtlSelect. This would really be great help rendering a floor with a lot of carpet/tile options without having to reassign a map and re-render a region.
3. here's a minor update. The large actual resolution is noisy. I think the AO pass helped.
4. Thanks, those are great references. Both for rendering and for arch photography. I'm aiming more on the indirect sunlight illumination because the client asked for the actual sun orientation. In this particular view, the sun is in the other side of the building.
5. taken from a series of shots for a small office. Straight out from the frame buffer. No post processing yet. let me know what you think, as I am aiming to improve my lighting. a bit of info on the setup: MR IES Sun+Sky and IES lights This is from Mental Ray 2010 Cheers!

Render Farm

for DBR they dont render frames, they render buckets and for backburner they can render frames or strips.

HDRI scene

your previous model would better evaluate your HDRI than a clump of mirror balls. Use a semi-gloss and semi-reflective values on your material and see what you can come up.
8. here's the finished conference room done in mental ray 2010. Some obvious noise issues are still there as well as with the concealed lighting. I could remove the noise with higher sampling settings but the render times will be ridiculous for this resolution (900x600). I can't afford for the render to go for more than 1-1.5 hours on a quad core. Some minor post edits done to hide the more prominent speckles and a few enhancements.
9. Here's another take. This time with just Daylight and 1 mr_portal light and the IES lights turned off. The image is a bit noisy though. I still need to understand proper optimization. For now, i gave up on the fabric material for the seats and changed it to leather instead. Thanks for the encouraging comments.
10. for the past few weeks, i've been toying with mental ray in 3ds max design 2010, with just the default medium settings and some tweaking with the A&D materials, i've come up with this rendering from an old project. But somehow, looking at it, it seems so lacking compared to what i've seen from better mental ray renders. This particular scene is lighted with IES Photometrics and a MR Daylight and Sky and mr Photographic exposure. The rendered output is without post-processing. Your comments and suggestions to make this better are highly appreciated.
11. are you using max 2008?
12. here's another experiment in the NPR pipeline. AO Pass+Toon+Reflection+shadow+diffuse+post
13. either render using small f.stops and long exposures or... photoshop. render your beautiful interior, never mind the washout. then render the interior without the washout. composite in ps.
