  2. Yeah, note i wanted to explore angle and/or offset. Bobo posted solutions for both, the angle version is really cool too. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=98&t=489438&highlight=PFlow Also, the script at http://www.pxfactory.eu/scripts/pinsman/pinsman.html is perfect if all you want to do is produce offsets only.
  3. Thanks for all the responses guys, i also ran this same thread on cgsociety, got some very usefull solutions, one of which i decided to use by the user bobo. Well worth a look. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?p=5482699#post5482699
  4. Hi, I am trying to create a pin matrix toy style effect on a buildings south elevations as a type of brise soliel that can move fins in and out over time and respond to weather & time of year etc. The most similar thing i can think of was this which i remember seeing on evolo site; http://www.evolo-arch.com/bskyh.html There was a tutorial for a pin art toy in 3d world issue 106, but alas it was for maya. I'm guessing scripting is pretty much the only way to do this but i have no idea how to tackle it. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated...
  5. ah, well thats why i'd never seen it then. Yep usefull, although id've rather they just left it where it was on the top toolbar!
  6. Great! Ive used max for many years and never even noticed it was there. Thanks.
  7. Hi, newly upgraded to max 2009 from max 9, im still finding problems with incorporating small things into my existing workflow. I use Vray VFB to render with, saves memory, usefull for z's, id's etc, but i keep having to open max's native render frame to access reigon tools. Ive found the edit render region tool in customize menus and added it to my toolbar, but i can't find the view/reigon/selected..etc pulldown to add back where it always used to be. Anyone know how to add this to the toolbar, or even more usefully how to add it to the VrayVFB?
  8. Wow, thanks Brian. I've only been trying it for an hour, but so far it looks like your suggestion works a treat!
  9. Cool, ok, thanks guys, i'll get the new pack, the list of fixes i had found didnt seem to include my problem. This is where working for a big organization is a nightmare, cant install these patches myself, and need to go through a 4 week process to get them installed including justifying why i need them!! IT support...yeah right.
  10. Hi, I have recently upgraded to max 2009, i dont use the new view cube and walk tools etc because im used to just using shortcuts, t for top l for left p for perspective etc, but im finding all my viewports end up becoming perspective views when in the quad viewport mode. And i have a camera which keeps changing to an orthographic when working within it, ie moving a a chair or such. Is anyone else having this problem? Its pretty annoying.
  11. I am trying to create a structure which is kind of lizard shaped, and i am experimenting with the kind of birds nest effect that was used on the olympic stadium. I have created the basic volume with a loft, with twist and scale modifiers along its length. I have managed to create something similar to the birds nest with a series of lofts using differing twist factors, so that members spiral in opposite directions along its length. Can you suggest alternative methods for creating that effect on a tapering shape?
  12. Of course! i never thought of that. Thanks alot.
  13. I'm working with an architect in my office who is exploring structures for a tower. Mainly looking at repeated shapes up 3 spiralling struts that taper together at the top. all linked with tensioned wires. My problem is, each time i duplicate my shapes along a twisting path, i cant seem to find a quick way to change their scale aswell, manually is time consuming and innacurate. any ideas?
  14. The only suggestion i can think of is numbering the bimaps sequentially. ie. image_0001.jpg, image_0002.jpg (theres software that automates that, select a folder and rename all file within it) and then render the output images as if its an animation, and use the textures as image sequences... Might work!
