  1. It sounds like you have a very serious machine! I'm envious. I was afraid that I would be missing some functions, and you've confirmed that. Modo has toon shading, and the functions you've described in Mograph. Net rendering isn't a factor for me, but cloth would be a handy tool. Too bad C4D isn't modular anymore. Modo has very nice solid SDS modeling, and some "features" are not so nice...like the clumsy material system, a tendency to be unstable, and it handle large files poorly. The last two "features" has me looking at C4D again. Thank You, I appreciate your help!
  2. I've been running a old version of c4d for many years, and realise it's time for a major upgrade, but have a limited amount of $ to do it with. (after a diastrous excersion into Modo) If I buy C4D Prime and Vray, what would I be missing in function? Could I still be able to create and render grass and forest of trees with the vray functions? Thanks...D.B.
  3. I have a job that requires the design of temporary interior of a 10x20m (2152 sq. ft.) space with renderings. It's a prefab building, but the interior build-out is all custom contruction, including concept and design development floor plans, lighting design, design of cutom fixtures, like reception desk, liquor bar, and food service counters. I'll do the design drawings, but contruction drawings will be done in Germany. I used to work for this company, and have done precisely this design service in the past, but would like to know what the current market value of these sevices might be. ?? These folks will pay current market value for what I do, so input would be appreciated! D.B
  4. Cool bike!..It looks very close to photos I have of 1941-1946 Harleys, and the headlight really does look like that. Researching and modeling a period environment could be fun too.
  5. Modo does indeed have a nice modeler. If a trial version is available, see if it works for you. I've been using 401 for about 6 months, and haven't had problems with instability on my PC. However, I use Cinema 4d on larger or more complicated projects. Modo doesn't manage rendering memory as well, and it takes a lot of tinkering to set up materials.
  6. No mention of freelance?.... I'd be wary of this one....but if you had intended to buy Max anyway, maybe others from the UK can advise on price.
  7. Rendering for me is fun.... Everything else is work. Do what what you enjoy, life is far too short.
  8. Rhino isn't a bad choice for architecture, and it's capable of drafting too. It wouldn't be my choice for construction plans of a hi-rise, but for smaller projects like a house it will do fine. Vray for Rhino may be a an option for your rendering needs, and the whole bundle will cost a less than a single copy of Max.
  9. Nice job!.. the parts stores I frequent don't look half this good. The light fixtures look fine... parabolic lenses appear dark, unless you look straight up. However, they do have a sharper light cut-off angle than standard diffusers, and would probably have some hotspots on the walls.
  10. Nice job Claudio! Is that bridge crossing the Trinity "river"?
  11. I'm color blind too, but my brother is even worse! I've found that picking colors is easier for me using HSV, and have a chart by my screen...yellow is 16.6, blue is 66.6, etc. Brown can be a problem though, and that's when I ask my wife for help. There are a couple of devices that may help though. ColorMax lenses in spectacles are supposed to help some people with red-green deficiencies, and another is the X-chrome contact lens. I experimented with the X-chrome a number of years ago, but couldn't live with a red contact len in one eye. It did make colors more vivid..especially red.
  12. 286-8/12 mhz (switchable!)..DataCad was slow, & AutoCad was slower..., but much better than a Commodore with a tape drive.... :-)! D.B.
  13. During the past few “recessions”, Texas suffered less and recovered sooner. The low and medium size home builders started dropping out of the picture about 15 or 16 months ago, but million dollar + homes have been doing well. The good news is that home starts have increased here during the last quarter, and the recent federal bail-out of two quasi-governmental home lending agencies could lead to lower interest rate for home loans…. I’ve seen an increase in commercial work in the last year, probably because my clients have had to adjust to market conditions, and have been concentrating on those markets…y’all may need to make similar adjustments to survive this bump in the road. 14. My mistake...I thought at first there were window mullions above. Very good rendering!
  15. Very nice!...but I would think that some sun or skylight would be coming in from the windows above?
