1. Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to set the rendering to go tonight for the 100 frames I want to add and try splicing it into the main animation in premiere or AE. I haven't used them for a while so I will have to see how it goes. I will update the post when I get a chance to try splicing in the animation hopefully tomorrow. Thanks!
2. Hello, I am new to animations in 3D studio and just created one for a client. My problem is I need to stop the animation at approx. frame 550(out of 1000), have something else happen for 100 frames, and then continue on with the original animation. How do I get the current animation to stay still for 100 more frames in the middle of a current animation? I am looking to have a 1100 frame animation. Thanks for the help!
3. I just received the answer from Chaos group. In the material editor under options, there is a check box that says 'use real-world map size for geometry samples' This box needs to be unchecked. Hopefully this helps out any one else that might have this issue. Thanks for the help to everyone. Scott
4. Hello, It does render correctly, it just does not appear on the material editor samples. I have no idea what the material looks like until I render the image. The 'M' is upper case. I did include another screenshot. It also shows the viewport with material showing and the rendered test image. I got this specific material from vray-materials.de. However, not all of the materials in the scene are from there. Most of them are materials I have made and they do not show up either. I am running windows 7, 64-bit also if that might make a difference. Thanks for the help!!
5. Shaun, I tried what you said but it did not do anything. I am including a screen shot of the material editor and what the bmp is. Maybe this will help explain. Again, the material is fine in the viewport, just not the material editor. As you can see most of the materials are that way. Thanks!
6. It is on. The images show up fine in the viewport. They just do not show up correctly in the material editor for some reason. Thanks for the help.
7. Hello, I am having issues with a newly installed version of Vray 2.0 with 3D Studio max Design 2011. When I go to the material editor the materials do not show the diffuse map and bump on the sample. They do change to a color and do seem to have a reflection to them, but the diffuse map is not showing. You can not tell what the materials are Any ideas how I can make the samples appear like the real diffuse map? Thanks!
8. I was searching through some other posts and found people with the same issue a while back. They fixed it by importing as a Legacy dwg file. I tried it and it did work, however the file is not linked. It makes it a little bit tougher when you make changes, but I needed to get the project out the door and couldn't wait to keep trying the linking. I had a very detailed cad drawing that would take about 8 minutes to load though file link. Thanks for the help, I will mess around to see if there is a better way to make it work for the next job.
9. Thanks for the reply. I bumped up the curve steps to 30 and decreased the deviation to .25" for 1" however the curves are still coming in as straight lines.
10. Hello all, I have recently been working on a kitchen rendering and I typically create the model in Autocad 2011(saved down) and file link to max 2010. Any object with a curve is coming in to max not looking like an arch. It is not smooth as you can see in the picture included. Does anyone know how to make this a smooth arch when it is inserted into 3Ds Max? I have not had this problem before. Thanks!!!!
11. Thanks everyone, I am a little slow in the computer world so thank you for your patience. So if I were to get a quad core system, a bunch of ram, cheap graphics card, cheap network card, small hard drive and any other cheap features, I should be able to set up a render box and control it through my Pentium D with no problems while greatly decreasing the render times? Does the quad use all four cores individually while rendering in a sense speeding up the rendering by 4x, even for individual frame renderings? Does max 9 and 2010 require XP pro or vista? I have XP home which I believe is not supported by max 9 and above? I would like to upgrade but do I need the new operating system? If the new computer comes with Vista, will that be a problem with the network rendering since my computer is XP home? Do you even need an Operating system on the slave machine or Can I get a barebone kit without it? Thanks again!!
12. Thanks, Well I have started to look at my options and have been able to find a quad core barebone kit for $400(US) This seems like a really good deal. Am I understanding that if I get a quad core machine render times with max and vray will get shortened by a lot. Does anyone know how well the quad core works? Does it break the rendering into four different cores, cutting the render times in half from a dual-core? Here is the other question. If I want to upgrade to Max 9 do I have to switch from Windows XP to Vista? I might be better off saving for a quad core that comes with the operating system and use that as my main computer instead of a render cpu. Any thoughts? Thanks!
13. Thanks Trissel, I think that sounds like a pretty good idea. I will have to see what I can find. I had a job a couple years ago that we used network rendering and as far as I remember it was a nightmare to set up. It would be nice to have one computer working on the renderings and still working on the other(if that works). I assume if I were to get one cpu a dual core wouldn't make much of a difference if it is used for just rendering, correct? Do you know if a better graphics card would help at all? I have heard some people say they help and others say it doesn't make a difference. I would also like to get a dual dvi card for two monitors. I have read some bad things about the hypermemory I have using up system ram in other posts. Any more information you can give would be appreciated. Thanks!
14. Hello, I am looking at upgrading my computer to try and speed up render times. 2 and a half years ago I purchased a refurbished dell for cheap and upgraded to 3gb of ram. What I have is below: XPS 400 Desktop: Pentium D Processor 820 with Dual Core Technology (2.80GHz, 800FSB) No Raid 1 GB DDR2 Non-ECC SDRAM 533MHz (2 DIMMs) Microsoft Windows XP Media Center 2005 USB 2 Button Mouse 56Kbps Data/Fax Modem IEEE 1394A ADAPTER,DIM9150 ISP Software Wild Tangent Gaming Client Image Restore Software USB Keyboard Power DVD Software 160 G (I) (7200 RPM) 16X DVD ROM Drive McAfee Security Center with VirusScan, Firewall, Spyware Removal, 15-months 16x DVD +/- RW w/dbl layer write capability 1394 Controller Card 13 in 1 Media Card Reader Adobe Acrobat 6.0 Reader QuickBooks Simple Start Edition 256MB PCI Express x16 (DVI/VGA/TV-out) ATI Radeon X600 SE HyperMemory I should probably upgrade the computer itself but would like to know if there is anything I can do for cheap(under $300) to increase render times. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!
15. Hello, I had just run this rendering of a main entrance lobby to a senior living facility. I thought I would post it to see if anyone had some comments or critiques on the image. Unfortunately I have 3 other images to do in 2 days and probably won't be able to get to the changes till after then for my own personal growth. By the way, the hanging light fixtures will be changed out. Thanks in advance for any suggestions, Scott
