  1. Yes i can't post a URL because i haven't done 10 posts yet. So the forum doesn't let me. The problem with creating a MASK, is that there is no chance you'd get the bricks and the stones to align as though they've been hand placed side by side like that photo. I think i really need a good photo to use as a texture.
  2. Hi, hope i don't get flamed for posting here. I'm weeding through those texture links atm. But i'm looking for a fairly high rez texture of something quite specific. Maybe somebody can help. I'm looking for a wall texture that is made of old stone and brick intermingled. Like this: http //photos3.pix.ie/7F/98/7F985B52329F4BC6ACD0999EB8ED8ADD.jpg Does anybody know where i might get something suitable? That i could make seamless etc?
  3. Terrain plugin for CAD seems nice and quick. To create a mesh at least. And Surfer looks fantastic generally, but very expensive. Are there any other quick and easy plugsins or programs that will interpret survey data in CAD and generate contours easily and effortlessly?
  4. I would like to find out what Printing Accounting software architectural firms are using. Our company has a couple large format plotters, a large format scanner and a few ordinary run-of-the-mill printers for highish volume A4's and A3's. They've a business plan to start a printing shop and are going to be in need of some software solutions. The plan is to operate the printers as it's own business. So they're looking into printer accounting software that can interoperate with a database, probably MySQL i think. Also there'll be a website for customers to order prints online. I am suggesting recycling our existing windows server for the print shop to use as their print server; however the IT guy doing the database stuff wants to go all Linux, using CUPS for a print server. I don't know if our plotters will work under CUPS. Nor do i know if there is very good print accounting software that's Open source. Does anybody have advice for these things?
  5. sorry i should clarify, i'm just asking about creating the contours. I'll use MAX or Sketchup to generate the actual polys. I suppose my difficulty is the scattered nature of these elevation points within that CAD file. Contours don't look scatter-gun like that, so i suppose i must figure out a logic to drawing contours that resemble...well contours lines.
  6. Hi i just wonder how someone would go about creating contours using existing survey data in a CAD file. I know how to create a polyline obviously...i suppose what i'm asking: is there a rhyme or reason or method to employ when using survey data like that contained within the cad file attached? What you you personally do, to get contours from this information?
  7. Thanks i was curious if there existed a handy standalone package or whatever. That tutorial stuff looks good on CAD to Max. I am familiar with Sketchup and today can export from CAD to Sketchup, use the Sandbox and Drape tools but then find i need more detail (for example to depress the road surface into the terrain) and go to Max for this. Sketchup is great but it has certain buggy qualities.
  8. Hi i'm just wondering what are some programs people use for terrain modeling. Particularly in the context of creating 3d visualizations for architecture. And more specifically, terrain modeling from topographic maps, ie: contours from a CAD file. Including roads. What programs should i look at? I have a familiarity with 3dMax and a little familiarity with AutoCAD. But in the interests of creating a pretty picture (3d visualization), that maintains a certain accuracy.. what programs do people use in the industry for this type of stuff? Just looking for some general suggestions i suppose.
  9. That sounds great. Worked within autocad you say? Is that CutePDF pro or something cause i find the freebie just installs a CutePDF printer and you just print to file with it.
  10. Sorry i forgot to mention that we (the company i work at) are using Acrobat Distiller already. Just we are looking for a more streamlined process. Also the quality of the conversion leaves something to be desired with Distiller. It seems to have hatch patterns going over their boundry lines. Anyway i just tried CutePDF, while it doesn't offer a single button conversion (at least the freebie version), it's doing a better quality conversion than Distiller.
  11. So far i've tried a couple things: Bluebeam is nice, great to convert to PDF with a single push of a button. However for whatever reason Bluebeam Revu isn't printing PDF's very well with any of our plotters. The size of the file balloons when spooled and the line quality is poor. AcroPlot is nice but it doesn't offer the simplicity of a single push of a button. I just tried DWGGateway and it's got potential however my PDF comes out in colour and the styles we use here are not working, all the lines have lost their thickness. Any others i should check out?
