  1. Thanks for the reply... I will search the forum for other threads concerning this subject. Greetz
  2. Can someone give me some tips on how to decide what price you're gonna ask your client? I'm planning to do some small projects in my free-time but don't really know how much I can ask and how. A price for each render? a separate price for the 3D model? Or for instance 200 for a render, and then also like 500 for the making of the model. Perhaps this is a bit of an indicrete question, but it's just to get some directions or so Thanks, Cheers
  3. I recieved an offer to make some visualisations for a small project, my first real archviz project that will be paid. They asked me how much I ask for it, what the price is. But I really don't have a clue... How much do you guys ask? Do you divide it, like so much for making the model and then a certain amount for one render. Are you getting paid by the hour you work, hope someone can help me a bit. I'm from Belgium cause I think there are differences beteween USA and Europe or elsewhere... Thanks in advance
  4. Hey all, For a project, I need to create some 3ds objects and import them into openGL. Creating the 3ds objects is fine. Importing them into openGL is fine as well. However, the problem is that the textures aren't "linked" to the 3ds file let's say. Now, I've heard that you have to unwrap it with UVW. I haven't done this before, so I do not know what to do. It's rather simple, it's just a small painting I made. But ye, it's just white when I load it in openGL, because it can't link the textures. Is there any easy way to do this? Basically I just need a 3ds file, and a texture file, bmp or tga. Sorry if this has been asked already, but couldn't really find it. Thanks in advance, Joris
  5. My thesis is about lighting in CG, the principles of local illumination, global illumination. Explaining things as antialiasing, HDRI, physical skies..... I chose this because at our school we are still teached to use scanline render and radiosity, and that takes for ever to render in my opinion and the result isn't that 'waaaw'. I wanted to show fellow students the possibilities there are considering CG techniques. The second important thing is rendering-time vs. quality. Each render has a time-indication, so that you can see how much more time it takes to render if you opt to use GI, of add a HDRI to the scène.... Hope it's understandable. I got a lot of critics on forums, cause this is not a subject for an architecture school they say. But in Belgium it works =) so.... greetz
  6. Thanks for the comments... I know the hedges are a bit of a problem but haven't got the time yet and for the grass, my computer isn't strong enough to calculate the displacement map so that's why the grass isn't such a succes. I'm now making some similar renders with vray and afterwards I'll add the grass with photoshop I think. Greetz
  7. Here is a Mental Ray exterior I finished lately, it's for my thesis...I didn't have the time to give it the finishing touch...perhaps within a few weeks, when I have some time. C&C welcome
  8. Indeed I finally decided tu use a teapot and a cillinder next to it...but I thought it would be nicer if I had some furniture, but this works too just to show the principlle. Thanks for the reply
  9. Thanks for the reply,I can use it to make a little bit of text. I'm not going to cover this, just to mention it. The subject I'm talking about in my thesis is about rendering, and low / high poly does make a difference considering render time, that's why I want to metion a few lines about this and show a picture. Especially for fellow students how don't know what I'm talking about
  10. I'm looking for wireframe renders of the same piece of furniture, one low poly version and one high poly version. It's to for my thesis, to show the difference between low poly and high poly...also concerning the different amout of memory a computer uses for these ones. I'm not good at modelling, so is there someone how can provide me that, perhaps if possible with the same camera viewport. Or a low poly and high poly model of the same 3ds max model, so I can render it myself. It doesn't have to be something big... thanks in advance greetz
  11. This is a memory problem I think, I have some experience with that. Max crashes and just shuts down without a warning. Some tips that worked for me: Adaptive QMC uses less memory than subdivision. Uncheck 'show calc phase' And in your 'system tab' you can indicate how many dynamic memory max uses, increase it too 1000mb and change geometry to dynamic beneath it. These are things I did, and worked for me. I work with Max 9 and this version only uses 1.5 gb, of the 2gb so perhaps there lies the problem (don't know with max 2008, perhaps it can use the full 2gb) Check your processes when your rendering, and see how many memory max uses just before it shuts down. 12. It's not my design,it's an existing building but either way...it's for personal purpose so... Do you want the autocad file, or the max file, with models and all....the only problem wil be the textures and materials... Let me know and give me your email, then I'll see how we can manage. And perhaps your help can be useful with Mental Ray, we'll stay in touch. greetz
  13. I modelled all of it in Autocad 2007, and afterwards imported it in Max... The furniture models are Max models. And I really like using Vrayedgestex. Thanks for the reply. greetz
  14. Hi there, These are some test renders for my thesis about architectural visualization. They are just test renders, I did them quick cause I still got a lot of work on my thesis. Within 3 weeks I'll post the final ones. Is also got a site: www.paliox.be/cgportfolio Here you can follow my process a bit, and 3 weeks from now, the thesis will be on the site (I'm afraid it will be in dutch, but nevertheless the pictures will say the most, with time indication). I will render this scene starting with scanline and then Mental Ray and finally Vray, I want to show the difference in the different renderers. And what GI does en color bleeding...and with the time indication you can see how much longer it takes to get a better of different result. I'm making it for students at my school, to let them understand that it isn't that "difficult" to make a fairly good render... If you have comments or critics, please share them...perhaps things I have to pay more attention too. On my site there are some other test samples. Greetz
  15. I general your renders are nice.... first I have to say that the quality of your image is not good enough, its too pixely, too much pixels.... For the rest, I like the third one the best, except you could give the lamp an other material..something reflective, to give an accent to the picture / the room. And I agree with PAWUK considering the sofa material.... Keep up the good work.
