  1. Where can I find reading material or a step by step tutorial that explains linear workflow using the vray cam, vray sun, vray sky?
  2. Hey Gary, I am using the vray frame buffer. I have even heard that I need to set my sun to an intensity of 1. Is that correct? I have even watched Lele's tutorial with the gargoyle and the way he had things setup was even more confusing. He talked about using vray color float which I tried as well. Can you plzzzzz guide me in the right direction.
  3. I have been reading the forums about LWF but there always seems to be some other way of doing it. I just read a post from 2006 where a user was confused and Chris Nichols help him out alot. I looked my monitor was set too bright and i changed it to 6500k. For the record I am using a CRT Monitor. One thing that has me puzzled is in the Max Pref where the input and output settings are. In one post I saw some had it at 1.0 for the input and some had 2.2:confused: So just to put this linear issue to bed. What is the correct setting?????? I have attached some images showing how i have my system configured for LWF. To be honest I never used any other color mapping beside Linear. I used vray camera fstop=2 shutter=200 iso= 150, vray sun multiplier=0.03
  4. Hi Brian, I was wonder if you wouldn't mind sharing that exterior setup scene that you have. If so is it configured for LWF? I have never been able to get my white to look so balanced the way you have it on the teapot.
  5. Translucent leaves add more rendertime in vray??? What about opacity maps do they add alot of time??? I have some trees by xfrog and they use opacity maps for their trees. Is it wise to use them?
  6. Hi Brian, I purchased your first book and now in the process of buying the other one. I was wondering if you can give techniques on modelling that seem pretty hard for some people. Like for instance can you look into making up tutorials for using reactor cloths etc.. I would really like to learn how to make realistic looking curtains that have a natural look with all of the folds and wrinkles. Other things I would want to see are using Post Programs like after affects and combustion, and LWF is a must. Thanks for asking for our input and good luck with the book.
  7. How about networking rendering in vray and animation setup settings?
  8. Hey guys i hope you like this scene. Vray Sun+Sky,Vray Cam, Irr+LC,LWF If there is anything i can improve on please let me know.
  9. Hi everyone, Just thought i would share this rendering with you guys so i can get some feedback as to what i need to improve on. LWF, IRR & LC, AdQMC w/Vray Sun+Sky+Vray Phys. Cam

if you don't mind i would like to see the file and the way you set the scene up. thanks for the help

    Cloth question

Can you give some pointers on how you got such a nice cloth model with simcloth. I need some help making a bedspread. TIA
  12. Max 8, Vray 1.5 RC3 IR & LC, LWF, Ad qmc Hope you guys like it
  13. Well i did say this is for those who do not use max primarily and have older scenes that they have completed using studio. I hardly use archicad the plugin because archicad does not do a good job with uvw and importing trees done with onyx, xfrog etc.. are simple to do using studio. Actually i am in the process of learning Max to get around this but i jus did this to see if it was possible. Thanks for the reply maxer:)
  14. I figured out a way to do an animation using maxwell studio. Its a tedious process but for those of us who don't work in max primarily here is how to do it. I did a scene that i posted on here sometime back of a pool view. I modeled the building in Archicad and imported my trees etc to Studio to compile my entire scene to render using Studio. So now i am wondering how can i do an animation of a simple fly thru of this scene. First of all you have to know a little bit about using cameras and setting up frames in max. I exported my "Base Model" of the building that i first started with to a .3ds format and imported it into Max. Then I created a camera and set its target pointing at the center of the building. That target point will act as the pivot point at which the camera will rotate around. I selected a dummy from the "Helpers" tab in Max and created the dummy so it can fully enclose the camera or i should say the camera will be centered in the box created by the dummy. Now go to the hiearchy tab, select pivot and then hit the "Affect Pivot Only" button. This brings up another gizmo with a tiny box. Move that pivot point box to the camera's target making sure its centering the target. Now link the camera to the dummy using the link tool which will make the camera the child and the dummy the parent. Now we are ready to animation our fly thru. You can now go and set how many frames you want to render out and select the "autokey" in the animation timeline, rotate the dummy along the "Z Axis" which rotates the camera around its own target. When done rotating to get the fly thru you want, move the timeline slider to the ending frame and that will give you your animated camera in motion around the building. I then went ahead and deleted the model I imported but kept the animation intact. Then i used the tutorial on the think.maxwellrender.com website about animation export in 3ds max. Follow how that tutorial export each frame to a folder. This is important because this is actually exporting jus the cameras for your animation. Once you have exported the MXS files. Open your completed scene that you want to now animate. Import each frame or mxs file that you just exported which will bring in each camera or frame for you to animate. Now here is the hard part:mad: I had to manually take each camera that i imported and set them to the correct Shutter, Fstop, SL, & Time. Then i had to set each camera in my animation as active and then export the scene to another folder. This will now give you your sequence that you can set to animate. I know this was long but i hope it make sense for those of us who work using studio but want to do an animation of a simple fly thru. Just to note each final frame that i had to export was 145 meg .mxs so i did them in increments of 15 then deleted when they were done. PM me if you have any questions
