  1. Thank you. That's what I was looking for. So while the color of the diffuse doesn't matter (as long as it's not completely black), the amount of diffuse contribution affects the raw light.
  2. I guess it's the "obviously" part I am looking for more information on. So more reflection = less raw light because the rays are being reflected? All things being equal how does reflection glossiness then affect raw light?
  3. I am having some strange issue with the raw light pass. What seems to be happening is that the shader used on the geometry is affecting the raw light pass, but it would seem to me that the raw light pass should be disregarding the shader completely. Does anyone know what exactly is happening in that pass? Do any values from the shader affect the raw lighting pass?
  4. Yes, what AJLynn said. This article is telling Architects and Jr. Architects to leave the rendering to the professionals. I've heard of offices that try and have their Architects do their own rendering, and it just doesn't work. They don't have the time and fall victim to all of the things mentioned in this article.
  5. Really nice work. The trees do look a little out of scale to me, in that the leaves seem too large relative to the size of the tree. Looks like they are just scaled up versions of smaller trees. Also, for your website you should really check the spelling of the word aerial
  6. I can see where you're coming from, but what happens when the designer updates the SketchUp model after your 3/4 of the way done with texturing the Max file? The file link for CAD makes updating your model so easy. Without that file link, you either need to re-import the entire model, or have the designer try and export out only the things they've changed (which leaves lots of room for error).
  7. Is there a script or a way to filter the Material/Map browser to only show V-Ray materials? File linked drawings always have a billion architectural materials in them and finding the V-Ray materials is like finding a needle in a haystack.
  8. I would highly recommend the Imap Control script at the following website. It provides an easy interface for saving out IR maps. http://varcht.net/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=13&Itemid=28
  9. Interestingly enough, here is what the visualization insider from 3DAS and CGarchitect has to say: "While using a filter such as Catmull-Rom or Mitchell-Netravali works great for stills, these filter types are sure to maximize the effects of flickering and texture crawling. When you create animations, you must use other filters that blur the rendered output, thereby minimizing these effects. Two such filters are the default Area filter and the Video filter. Remember however that the more blurred a filter, the greater the rendering time. At 3DAS, we try to use the Area filter to create animations (whenever possible) because using the Video filter can easily add 25% to your final rendering times. However, if the Area filter causes too much flickering or texture crawling, we must either use the slower (and more blurry) Video filter or render at a higher output. source: http://www.cgarchitect.com/upclose/VI/Week6/Antialiasing%20and%20its%20Side%20Effects.pdf
  10. You need to use the "save" option to the right of the singe frame option in the irradiance map drop down. Leave the light cache as single frame with no saving. It will be added to the saved irradiance map. When you want to use the saved vrmap file, do a from file in the irradiance map drop down and turn the secondary bounce (light cache) off.
  11. Check the 3dats website, go to the "free tutorials" link on the bottom and then go to week 24. I'd post the link but don't have enough posts to these forums to allow hyperlinks.
  12. Irina, Excellent work! We also use a lot of v-ray proxies and I recently discovered another tip with v-ray proxies. Make sure you fine-tune the Dynamic memory limit in the System rollout of the Settings tab. I found that in one of our scenes with large numbers of v-ray proxies, changing this limit from 400MB to 600MB cut the render time in half. Keep up the good work! Drew
  13. I persoanlly like the brightness in this image. I think it fits with al the glass and skylight. People or not, I think it looks fantastic!
  14. Looks great, but the metal television frame takes away from the reality of the rendering. But maybe I've just never seen one in real life...
  15. Just asking for opinions crabby. Since people on this forum work at companies and also post images online, I figured they might know how that works.
