  1. My max 2008 with vray rc3 works good on win 7. Now my max design 2010 with Vray sp3 just renders super super slow, it pretty much never renders something that takes a couple minutes to render on the old setup.
  2. I am wondering if anyone else is having problems taking scenes that have been created in MAX 2008 with Vray 1.5 RC3 and trying to render them in MAX DESIGN 2010 with Vray 1.5 SP3? Whenever I try to render a scene that was created in the old max and vray setup on the new setup it takes a very very long time to process the light cache alone. The same file that renders in max 2008 with vray in 10 minutes at a low resolution never gets past the light cache alone on the new setup. Its really very slow despite having the same render settings. I am running a dual quad core so i know its not an issue with the computers power. The scenes have approx. 6 materials along with a vray physical cam and a vray sun. I even tried importing the geometry and creating new lights and assigning the color white to the entire scene, just to see if it was an issue with material compatibility or lighting compatibility and no luck. It still takes forever. Found this thread but there are mixed feelings http://forums.cgarchitect.com/39397-3ds-max-design-2010-slower-than-previous-versions.html
  3. I understand, it looks great you nailed the scale perfect. Maybe just clone in some more trees in photoshop. Good work man.
  4. Nice work, I wish you would tone down the grass so its not such a bright green and maybe fade out the dark parking a lot a little.
  5. Your normals might be inverted... this happens alot when you bring in stuff from cad. Use a normal modifier to flip it.
  6. Guys as part of the early stages of a Student Center Building I have begun some precedence study on how the building can end up looking. I thought it might an interesting concept for the building to take on a iconic gesture similar to the Kursal Center by Moneo or even the de Young museum by herzong. Do you guys know of any other buildings that take on a similar approach? thanks, Ralph
  7. Brainkitts from this forum recommended this tutorial for my first vray animation which i think is great. http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150R...ials_imap2.htm you have to precalculate your primary and seconday gi then save it to a file and use it for the final animation. This prevents flickering or inconsistancisis ( i know i spelled it wrong) in the animation. Hope the tutorial helps Best regards- Ralph
  8. Ok good then i will keep the expensive ones which are on their way to me. I saw the color coding odd numbers have white tabs and even numbers have black tabs, that must be due to the dual channel memory. Like you said the samsungs are in the 1 and 3 tab and the new 2gb kingstons will go into the 2 and 4 slots. By the way the seller replied confirming that in fact i do need fully buffered dimm ecc server ram even though its a desktop. You know whats cool this thing has like 10 ram slots
  9. Ok this is what i bought for $180 (SERVER RAM) Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 FB-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) ECC Fully Buffered Dual Channel Kit Server Memory Model KVR667D2D4F5K2/4G - Retail Item #: N82E16820134327 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134327&Tpk=N82E16820134327 This is the same Ram except it is (DESKTOP RAM) and half the price Kingston 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model KVR667D2N5K2/4G - Retail http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134193 Now the original Ram is what dell put in there Samsung 2GB, DDR2 SDRAM FBD Memory, 667MHz So far this is what i can conclude the original one appears to be fully buffered hence the description "FBD memory" the fist server type memory is also fully buffered but the one right after "the cheaper one appears to not be fully buffered."
  10. You are pretty clever my friend with those caps jokes:D Well I am trying to figure it out honestly the only difference is the price and the fact that on the description it says "Server ram" vs "Desktop Ram". I did a couple searches and some people claim its "better ram" I guess its more stable or better quality since it needs to run an entire server. The pins are all the same they are 240pin. Others like the guys at Tiger Direct say that differenciation does not exist. But i know it does because on newegg they are stating the diffence in the title as as far as the specs go they are unaffected except for the fact the same amount of ram will cost you twice as much if it says server ram. Visually all the server Ram appear to have heat sinks, where the regular desktop ram doesn't necessarily have heatsinks. MY BAD ABOUT THE CAPS GUYS!
  11. It's All The Same Specs Except For The Fact That Its Server Ram And The Brnad Is Kingston...the Originals Are Samsung
  12. GUYS I RECENTLY GOT A KILLER DEAL ON A PRECEISION DELL T5400 BUT IT ONLY CAME WITH 2GB OF RAM. I WENT AHEAD AND BOUGHT SOME EXTRA RAM BUT IT ENDS UP I GOT SERVER RAM, BY THE WAY IT MEETS ALL THE SPECS AS FAR AS DDR2 PC2 5300 ECC. I DID NOTICE WHEN I WAS TOO LATE THAT ITS THE SAME SPECS EXCEPT ONE IS DESCRIBED AS SERVER RAM AND ANOTHER WHICH IS HALF THE PRICE IS DESKTOP RAM. WHAT SHOULD I DO …EXCUSE THE CAPS I WAS WORKING IN CAD WHEN I TYPED THIS. ALSO HOW IMPORTANT ARE HEAT SINKS ON RAM?
  13. ok thanks i will look into the drivers for the vinyl cutter and the printer first
  14. Hi I'm in the process of purchasing a new computer and I don't know much. So I got a few questions: Can I install any and all programs that I have right now on my current 32 bit opperating system on a 64 bit system? I have a server with three other computers and we share a printer, will that be a problem? I do vehicle wraps and wide format printing, so I work with files that are up to 2 gbs. I use photoshop CS3, Illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3 and CorelDraw. When working on a box truck that measures 24-26 Ft long by 8 ft tall, theres alot to put on the artwork. Which is when now I start to feel the slowness of my current PC. What specs do you guys think I should get on my new PC? Thanks
  15. Dude are you Eddie Leon from spine 3d? alright you dont' have to admit it, but say hi to rob for me. Things are real bad here man i am glad you revived this thread i started this thread when things started getting bad last year and now it would be interesting to see what others have to say. I am with you on things being red hot in Dubai but i think it's only a matter of time before this whole global economic crises hits them. Remember they are least affected because of their natural resources and therefore can hold out longer...china too (they don't have as much natural resouces but we buy everything they make..the good and the bad.) Regards, Rafael
