  1. I agree with stef, some great tutorials on the videocopilot site.
  2. I studied Interior Architecture at Leeds Uni. Was bored to death with the course but was introduced to 3ds max and spent all my time learning the program with some others in my class. Rendering a single image on all the computer lab PC's overnight, computers were pretty slow back then. Graduated and found a job advertised in my local paper for a architectural visualiser. Applied and got the job based on my portfolio. Realied I had learned nothing at Uni and spent the next two years learning. Worked at the company for five years and then moved to Australia to set up my own company. Grew the company over four years and then moved to Norway for a new start. At the moment I'm freelancing in 3D and considering the options of my career path. Hope this helps.
  3. Lighting is also a big issue with photoshop. If the light on the comped object isn't just right then it looks odd. Best to model the wine bottles and then they react to the scene lights and may also cast replections, shadows etc. The labels can be added in PS if they are not good enough.
  4. Stay put until the market picks up. Practice on the work flow and build up a good portfolio to market yourself. Time means money and if you can't produce images quickly then you're eating into your profit. Try and cover all areas and styles in your portfolio. Internal, external, commercial, leisure, Medical, education etc. Some Architects specialize in certain areas, others cover all areas of construction. The wider your variety of work the wider you can cast your net. As for work flow, here's mine; -receive drawings in dwg or pdf or jpg -import or open in AutoCAD to model -file link into MAX for lighting, materials cameras etc. -render high res and open in Photoshop for post processing. Animations are a different kettle of fish I'm sure everyone works differently and some similar. Everyone has their own preference. Search the forum, I'm sure this question has been answered many times in the past. Hence the no reply to the post. Good luck, but think before you jump.
  5. I would say that your physical camera needs the f-stop changing. Also try changing the ISO. A balance of these two will brighten the image.
  6. The lighting is nice on the building, but the sky seems too bright and sunny for the afternoon lighting on the building. Some long shadows to sjow the sun is low in the sky would help. Or try a sky between what you have and the sky attached.
  7. Blade runner has alot to answer for.
  8. This is an impressive tool, but has along way to go before its of any use to our industry. The graphics remind me of the classic doom game. Bring the graphics up to the level in Joseph Kosinski's I-spec animation and it would be a winner. http://www.josephkosinski.com/main.html
  9. Found a brand new magazine at the newsagents yesterday, 3D artist magazine. I've got to say it blows 3d world out of the water. Loads of good relevant detailed tutorials, free files and software. Hope the next issue is as good!
  10. The problem with clients like this is they have a clear idea of how it should look, but have no idea how to communicate this idea to others. 99.9% of the time they are a pain in the neck and just keep changing the design until the building is built. My personal nightmare client and there has been a few of them in the past.
  11. Hi Nodar. You aren't alone don't worry. I am in the same situation as you. Work seemed to just stop in 2009 and is just starting to pick up again. Luckily I saved in the good years 2007/8. All you can do is what you have already done, market to existing and new clients. Update your website work on personal projects to fill any gaps in your portfolio. Fingers crossed the work will come back.
  12. I'd get rid of this client pronto, rather than losing hours and dollars. Sounds like he doesn't really know what he wants.
  13. Move your model in AutoCAD to 0,0 before file linking to Max. This will solve problems zooming and finding the model in model space. I'm not sure if this will solve your problem with snapping.
  14. I've been given ArchiCAD models by clients in the past and they have had messy geometry, even rendering black. Not sure if this problem has been fixed, but I have heard people saying good things about ArchiCAD. I'm in the same boat though. Why learn another CAD program when AutoCAD does the trick.
