  1. Atari 400 circa 1981. Membrane keyboard ( try typing pages and pages of code with that baby ) and a cassette recorder to back to all up. Still remember some peek and poke codes. First "real" PC was in high-school. A few of us "mature" students were allowed to check out a new thing called AutoCAD. We could use the tablet to draw a Lamborghini. Couldn't tell you any spec's, 'cause to be honest, it was high-school and I had other priorities
  2. I'd like to chime in here to. I am experiencing about 60% of the same issues as Erickdt. My specific issue is in opening a new scene after working in MAX. About 70% of the time, MAX locks up forcing me to kill the process. I find that there is very little help available for these issues, so it seems that perhaps Eric and I have something misconfigured ??? _______ Max is up to date with SP2 Nitro ON ~ I have tried with DirectX - no change Windows 7 Pro 64bit (updates installed) Aero ON ~ I have tried with Aero OFF - no change ATI Radeon 4800 IPv6 disabled
  3. s=seconds ^-1 is the same as 1/x Therefore 200^-1 = 1/200
  4. Great find. There is something about the clarity and sharpness of the images that really got to me. The dead pigeon in the wastebasket was oddly moving. (Probably doesn't help I'm listening to Linkin' Park's "A Thousand Suns" while browsing these images)
  5. I feel for you as well. Don't kid yourself though. 64bit does not equal no crashes...just fewer (much, much fewer. At least in my experience) I have kept every project I have done available on a disk for me to look at when I need inspiration. Not to get ideas, but to remind me of how far I have come as well. In fact, I get a little bile in my mouth looking back of some of my crap from 5 or 6 years ago. /thinking about installing a mini fridge under my desk
  6. VRayDRBucket render element to show which machine rendered a given bucket in DR mode This alone is worth every penny
  7. Are you implying that there is a better way to get shiny objects than scanline with raytraced materials? Sorry, I'm having trouble rendering a 320x240 flc file on my 286. Gotta run!
  8. With NVidia making great cards in the GTX 4XX Series, is there any reason to drop an extra $500 +/- on a Quadro? Would it be better to go with 2 GTX460's in SLI ? ( I blew $1000 on a FX1100 about 8 years ago and don't think I ever got the value out of it )
  9. If I hadn't seen the steaks being adjusted for the photo shoot, I would have sworn they looked "comped" into the foreground as a separate element. Funny how the eye notices things after staring at 3d environments for 11 hours a day
  10. Ah yes...the infamous "We want it to be Photo realisitic....WHY IS IT SO DARK?????" If I had a nickel....
  11. You wanna talk cost? One office I worked at had 5 SGI boxes (boxes being kind, these bas boys were huge and were hard to move by yourself). The newest one they got (c.1998) cost just south of $60000 and the Lightscape license was +/- $5000. By the time I left in 2003, none of the SGI's were in use. We couldn't even repurpose the 21" monitors because they ran on a proprietary frequency. WTF???? edit: One machine "was" used to keep a door open. A $40000 door stop.
  12. I am aging myself, but some of my first work is on 5¼" floppies (which I still have), but sadly do not have (or wish to have) a 5¼ FDD. On a side note, I do remember my first AutoCAD drawing I created. A side view of a Lamborghini Miura way back in 1986. yikes!!!
  13. Holy Jebus. 51 layers? Shall I assume these were trees?
  14. I'm gonna watch this thread too, cause I gave up on 2011 and went back to 2010. Change for the sake of change is never a move forward.
