  1. Yes thanks for sharing Ernest. I am not familiar with some of the programs you are using. I am using Viz 2005. Perhaps an experienced Viz/max person can jump in from time to time with a "Viz/max" version of your steps?? Either way, this is a really great idea and a big help for us newbs. Thanks. Will be reading with interest. Regards, Kris
  2. Jim, In addition to books already mentioned, I found Mastering 3D Studio Viz 3 by George Omura an excellent beginners book. I think it has been updated now to 2005? But I still use the version 3 book with viz 2005. Has lots of good Architectural related tutorials. It has become one of my most "thumbed" through viz books! Hope this helps. Regards, KRis
  3. Hi, I recently purchased an Epson PhotoStylus Photo R210 printer. I mainly bought this printer for printing directly to CD/DVD and it was pretty good value I thought at $215.00 Australian. Has 6 ink tanks, prints borderless to A4 plus. The photo quality is fantastic. The drivers also installed an ink tank usage monitor - which drove me crazy. Kept wanting me to change the ink tanks when they were not completely empty. I uninstalled the software monitor and now the printer will just flash and indicate which tank is empty - which is actually far more accurate than the software monitor. This is my second Epson and I like their quiet operation and reliability. I also have an ageing HP 1125c for A3 prints. Nothing special, but has been reliable and just keeps on going! I've had a couple of HP's and have been very happy with them. In the past I have also had Canon printers and they were so noisy and took soooooooo long to actually commence printing after going through all the noisy self tests, I got rid of them. They also broke down a lot. Perhaps the newer models are much better. Regards, Kris
  4. Strat, This may seem really obvious, but I get this message if I don't have my scanner powered on when I boot my computer. Also, pull the scanner power plug out of the wall socket, then reconnect and boot the computer. (This can work, believe me - my IT guy does this with troublesome printers as well). Sometimes the most simple (and obvious) solutions can be overlooked. Anyway, thought it was worth mentioning. Regards,
  5. Hi, I love seeing other people's workspaces, so here are mine. Was a bit worried about posting the port photo as my office is somewhat messy, but after seeing Martin's, I don't think that I have too much toworry about 1st image is Tuckombil - northern NSW near Byron Bay. We werre living and working here for most of the year. The second is of my office in Port Macquarie NSW. On the coast about halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. Oh and as I don't have a cat or dog to share my day with, the last image is of my furry friend in his tree outside my family room window. cheers - Kris
  6. Hi, My current Viz 2005 subscription is soon to expire, so I asked my dealer what was happening with Viz and should I be considering cross-grading to Max. I don't feel like spending $470 (Australian) for a Subscription if there are no updates planned. This is what my dealer emailed me. Dear Kris, Thank you for your reply. I'm, at this very moment, waiting for a price update on a crossgrade of VIZ to MAX. Autodesk have not announced any imminent upgrades of VIZ; however, I suspect that, considering previous years' release dates, that we're likely to be informed of an upgrade in the next few months however, the final decision is Autodesk's.
  7. Hi Richard, Have a look at Visual Nature Studio http://www.3dnature.com this software is designed to do exactly what you want. I use this software to create terrain models from Autocad contour data, drape aerial photography, plant trees, 3d models of houses, create new roads and then produce stills and animations. The software will also export out to 3ds format if you want to do further work in Max. If you are doing a lot of this type of work, then it would be worthwhile considering this software. Added bonus is that the tech support is brilliant. Hope this helps. Regards, Kris
  8. Thanks for the shortcut Alex. Don't know why they want the suns eye view - but hey who am i to argue with a "paying" client - as long as they are happy Regards Kris
  9. Hi, I am in the process of modelling and creating a shadow study for a 114 unit hotel. I have also been asked to generate Sun's Eye View diagrams. Is there a way to set up a camera at exact co-ordinates for a particular time of day to replicate a view as if looking at the site from the sun's direction? Am a bit of a newbie, so hope this makes sense. Thanks. Regards Kris
  10. Thanks Also Graham, Well you are firing along there with the tutorial. I have not made any further progress as I have a big job to get ready for Monday (goodbye weekend). It is a shadow study of a 114 unit Hotel. - Should be interesting. I will get back on to the tute as soon as I get some time. Good Luck to you and would also love to see some of your progress. Gabriella, Are you doing the tute as well? Regards, Kris
  11. Thanks for the explanation Gabriella. I'll check that out when I get more time. Regards Kris (as in Kristine)
  12. Me Please I see there is a lot more to the Creating an Indoor Scene Tutorial. And a lot more headaches for me. Regards, Kris
  13. Hi Gabriella, When I select the edges and delete I loose the newly created object. Must be doing something wrong here. ( see this is why I need this thread and some help:) Also, why do the diagonal lines need to be removed? Sorry for the newb questions. I am using Viz2005 - would this make any difference? Regards Kris
