  1. Correct, you install 3DS as a slave and all of your required (vray, forest pack etc) plugins as a render node on the new PC.
  2. i really enjoy this site , a breath of fresh air, nice renders SAGE

  3. Studio/Institution: SageCGi Genre: Residential Exterior Software: Cinema4D vray4c4d Description: Its been a long time since I have uploaded anything to the gallery so I thought I would share what I have been up to. Some of the works are commissions and some are competition entry's. Enjoy!
  4. D40 = D3000 D60 = D5000 D80 = D90 A new D3000 is expected to launch by the end of the year renamed D3100. This upgrade is primarily a video upgrade (1080p 24F & 720p 30F) along with live view and proper video mode auto focus. Expect the D90 replacement this year as well with sim features and possibly a 14-16MP sensor.
  5. http://download.live.com/PhotoGallery Its simple, integrates into the OS shell & Free. I was rather surprised to find a MS product that works so well, lol.
  6. Time is money. Really your not saving your company but costing them money in lost productivity. The time you spend waiting for an animation to render is time you could have spent on rendering another project. Take a look at this farm, I don't have personal experience but I hear good things. http://www.rebusfarm.com/ Remember to forward the cost of rendering to your client, you should not have to eat that expense. FYI a i7920 rig is around £1.2-1.4K, you can get a dual xeon rig for £2.1-2.2K
  7. At best, 4 Core 2 Duo E6400's will give you 75% of the performance of a single i7 920. Practically speaking don't waist your time, just farm out the job or invest in a respectable workstation.
  8. lol, these PPI/DPI threads always cheer me up.
  9. FYI the new Core i7-980X is averaging aboot 8.8 (R11.5 xCPU) in most reviews I have seen. Works out to a 28% increase in cost over a 2P E5520 for 7% increase in performance.
  10. My primary Workstation, built by me. 2x E5520 ATI 4890HD Win7 Pro 64Bit A dash of pure awesomeness xCPU=8.19 OpenGL=25.85
  11. Q6600 @ 2.8 FX580 XP Pro 32Bit xCPU=3.07 OpenGL=12.33
  12. Overclocking may be fine for gamers and enthusiast but making a recommendation to someone that overclocking is a better investment for a professional is fool hardy at best. By the time you buy a quality PSU, Cooling, RAM (yes you do need good ram for a successful OC) you could have bought the faster CPU. As others have said there is no guaranty for a decent OC and the likely hood for a crash at a critical time increases dramatically. It only takes one crash during production to kill any cost savings you might have incurred, time is money.
  13. ASUS Z8NA-D6C (Dual LGA 1366 Intel 5500 ATX) 2 x Intel Xeon E5520 Quad 2.26GHZ(5.86GT/S) LGA1366 L2 8MB 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 1066 Quadro FX1800 768MB 192-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16
  14. 1. Task Manager, performance tab 2. Stop rendering and modeling at the same time. You could not have a more inefficient work-flow (assuming you are talking about final HQ renders). 3. If you really want to increase CPU power you will need to look at at-least a i7 940 (£400)
