  2. hehehe Thanks for the thoughts anyway Jon. Hmmm... could be interesting playing with clients.
  3. Merry Christmas! Non-3d post: I've started playing World of Warcraft and am really hooked. I'm trying to start a Guild for my family, basically a place me, the wife and kids can go to trade items and do Quests together. If anyone has a WoW account, I would be very greatful you could send me a letter in the game and be willing to sign my Guild Charter. You wouldn't have to stay in very long. I have a few gold pieces that I could spare towards your kindness. Character Name: SandmanNinja Realm: Windrunner Thanking you -Joel
  4. I remember being a young lad and going to an IBM Computer Expo (of some sort - I forget the details). There was this businessman in a gray suit and tie and I asked him about his computer. He said, "Son, this computer is an IBM XT. There is no way an average home user would EVER have a need for that much power..." hehehe Build it and they will come.
  5. Agree with the above - a HDRI is gonna make it look real. There's a mental ray shader that makes shadows - I forget what it is now, but do a render pass with that.
  6. It's kinda funny - when I first read your post, I thought "Which Berlin? East or West?"
  7. Thanks Jeff - you are Legendary! I'm thinking of starting to use this plug-in/script: http://matmanager.110mb.com/Index.html Ten Europe-Dollars - a pretty great bargin for what it does. No more corrupt A&D MatLibs and the things are stored logically.
  8. 64-bit Max won't create a .MOV file - it's not available as an option. I'm sure it can't use the 32-bit drivers because it would have to leave "protected mode" or something. Question: Is Fusion 6.0 64-bit? I found this link: http://www.vfxtalk.com/forum/quicktime-fusion-64-bit-t16642.html? And that's what the 32-bit version of Max is for on my computer. But, like it's been suggested before, just output regular frames and then put it together in POST. I guess I was just wondering. I've had Windows 7 for a few days and just no time to install it. Can't afford the computer to be down that long. Plus the usual "Hey! I didn't backup !! Dammit!" problems...
  9. That makes a lot of sense, Chad. Man, these tutorials make it sound so complicated!
  10. I agree with Strat. There's far too much information to convey in a forum post. http://www.mentalboutmax.com has some great video tutorials and they are very affordable. He goes over the interface in a general overview, then he digs in and explains everything.
  11. Hi Scottie That would be it running as a Service. This link tells you exactly what you need to do. I'd post a copy here, but it's pretty long. http://www.cguu.com/3dsmax/3dsMAX8/backburner/s1-3255905.html And there is a post on another forum where someone says they've made a batch file or script to do it automatically for you. But I have not looked at it nor tested it. http://forums.cgsociety.org/archive/index.php/t-408971.html
  12. I've corrupted my A&D Material Library in the past - it must be very sensitive. I've since switched (recently) to creating my own Material Libraries and have used a script on here to browse to a folder and it loads the MatLibs for you. Makes it easier. Here's my fix for the missing slots:
  13. Viewcube is truly Satan's Spawn and belongs in a very special place in Hell. I think it's at the point now where Autodesk has paid someone to write it, they know it's bad, but they feel obligated to keep it - kind of like the widowed Aunt that keeps getting passed around.
