  1. Yeah, I don't see such an option. It only says which version is installed and there's a Help button and an Edit/Save preset button.
  2. Hi all. Is it possible to update the FBX import/export plugin in Max 2015 to a newer one?
  3. Also interested in this. In addition to cleaning CAD files, I usually need to move stuff close to origin because importing files that are too far from 0, 0, 0 makes them unusable in Max.
  4. I don't know of any direct export method, but it is possible to do it using photoscan software. I've tried this method and it works quite well. There are a few tutorials on the subject. For example:
  5. I also think setting up your own maxstart file is the way to go. Just set up your materials (no need to save them in a library even), layers, lighting and whatever else you want and save the file as maxstart.max in your MyDocuments/3ds Max/scenes folder.
  6. If you are using lightcache, try enabling Retrace if it isn't already enabled.
  7. It looks the same for me. Just add another turbosmooth iteration and it should look fine. Also, when quad chamfering edges, adjust the Edge tension setting to 0.
  8. Not necessarily. Also, updating software can be a real hassle. If you use many different pieces of software together, like plugins, and you update one thing, you usually need to update everything else, and sometimes, not all of those updates are available immediately or at all.
  9. Are you using proxies? Which rendering engine are you using?
  10. Multiscatter, which is very similar to Forest has a geometry painting functionality (Multipainter), but you can probably just control those things with maps just as well.
  11. Yeah, you can try a couple things to get rid of that. I would do a checklist in this order and try a test render after each one: 1. Light Cache: turn on Retrace. 2. Light Cache: turn on Leak Prevention 3. Irradiance map: turn on Detail Enhancement. 4. Irradiance map: turn on Check sample visibility. All of these things, except maybe leak prevention, will increase your render times. You can also try to lower their default values if you really need to.
  12. I'm running two machines on only 100+ GB SSD and still have plenty room to spare with windows, graphics apps and some other minor apps installed on it. All data is stored on an HDD. Of course, if you want to install games and other stuff on it, then you need to go much higher than that. Regarding RAM, if you only do simple interiors, 16 GB should be enough, but for bigger scenes I needed to upgrade from 32 to 64 on my machine and after that it could finally breathe again Good luck!
  13. Oh right, I forgot about glossy fresnel There's a checkbox for it under Options in the material editor. Should be on by default, though.
  14. Sorry for going a bit off topic, but what is Rough Fresnel? Do you mean selecting "Use roughness" in BRDF options? I have no idea how to use that workflow, any links that could explain this? Thanks!
