  1. Thanks Macker, Yes we took inspiration from the MAXXI in Rome for that kitchen design. http://www.zaha-hadid.com/built-works/maxxi The fluid forms lent themselves well to a flowing kitchen which cascades down the space, here is the portfolio link; http://pikcells.com/portfolio/?id=55
  2. Studio/Institution: Pikcells Client: Kronospan Genre: Office Interior Software: Max, VRay, After Effects, Pshop Website: http://pikcells.com/ Description: Hi Everyone, We recently completed a set of images to help promote a new wood panel collection. Our client wanted to make a statement about their innovations when developing new products. This called for some cutting edge unique looking imagery which push the boundaries of modern furniture design. We designed everything from the ground up. We created all the main furniture and sets from scratch, developing them around the 5 trends of Linear, Classic, Coastal, Vintage and Rough Sawn which were laid out by our client. Each one represented the various new finishes of their "Fresh 2" collection. This project really highlights what we can do with an open brief and our ability to design as well as visualise. The team really worked hard to pull this off and keep pushing the designs to make something special and we are all well chuffed with the result. See the full collection on our website http://pikcells.com/ RB
  3. Hi Mark, Definitely worth the time and effort. It will transform your work flow. Speed and polygon count handling with dramatically improve, you will be able to get alot of trees in your scene. You can use the copy of 3DSmax you have and a 64bit version of vray is available for download. CS2 will still work as will most 32bit programs due to the way xp64 is built. We use xp64 as it is stable, not tried vista but heard from our IT support at the time [about 12months ago] that it was a bit glitchy. Again as far as I know everything has to be compatible with 64bit architecture, mainly processor and motherboard chipset. Rich
  4. Hi, Ive found that calling and sending stuff out will only work in the short term if you have a good portfolio [which you may not when you are starting out]. If you can get a few good clients and the rest will follow from word of mouth if you can keep producing good work. After a while [maybe a year or so] your initial cold calling inquiries will start to come to fruition. I think the best way to market yourself is to empathize with your potential client. Is there a magazine or website which they will always read. Ask your current clients if what they read or where they would go on-line. This way you can put something under their nose. Also make sure that you can be found easily on-line. Rich
  5. I personally cant wait for a one button rendering solution so I can stop pissing around with all the settings for hours and get on with producing quality work. If your worried that one button can replace your entire lively hood then you should really reassess what you do. Your stuffs shit hot anyway Richard, I remember looking at the rarewhiterhino site when I first started out 5 yrs ago, not sure what your worried about. my 2 £s Rich
  6. I think you will have to pay a licensing fee for promotional use even if it is just for the client.
  7. Thanks for the comments, we appreciate the feedback. own1221, we have a few good universities around us who have mocap suites and we have an arrangement with them to allow us to use them. I think we will eventually get one though as they are very useful. With regard to the music I didnt think we would get any comments on there actually being some, I cant remember the last time I saw an animation without it. Comments about speed etc are noted and we will have to consider these for next time. jvlive, we felt that a good showreel depends on the sound track so we picked out a good one first then left it to MC to mix and edit the animation clips together. The song was not edited at all apart from shortening it. The xray stuff fit with the theme of the original animation it was used for but I know what you mean about it appearing dated, RIP opacity falloff. [Nerd alert]
  8. This is our latest Reel compiling our best animation projects from 2007/08. I wanted to share this as I feel we have reached a milestone in our ability to produce quality creative animation work and that this Reel encapsulates it perfectly. http://pikcells.co.uk/News_Reel_1/ Editing by Martin Crosbie. Comments and critiques welcome. Rich
  9. Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners is one of the best architecture sites I have ever seen, simple and well thought out with all the information you could ever want interlinked. http://www.richardrogers.co.uk Rich

  11. The workstations were all modelled in, we made a set of each piece of furniture in low, medium and high poly then distributed them according to their distance from the camera. Glares off bald heads are very now, you guys are so 2006. Will have to look at the photoshopping, we set up all the people just for the images so we could match in the shadows from the entrance etc.
  12. These are a few images from a large ongoing project we are currently working on consiting of the re-furb and extension of an existing building in central Leeds. It is mainly office space with retail at ground level. Images show the areas associated with the offices. The building was modelled completely from top to bottom, i will post some cutaways when they are ready. This is phase2 and an animation will be following over the next few months. Comments appreciated. Thanks, Rich Modelling - Andy Adams Furniture Modelling - Dean Punchard Textures - Dan Edwards Lighting - Dan Edwards Rendering - Dan Edwards Post - Richard Benson
  13. Mike, your dead right We try to make each project as interesting as possible even if its crap, otherwise you will be waiting forever for that ideal project where a client comes along and says put everything in. Theres no rule against suggesting something different to a client, 90% of the time you will find they go for it. Rich
