  1. Hi Denis I would suggest taking a scan of your models in a t-pose aswell - you may not use it straight away but I am sure in the future you will start to explore animating the models and for that you need the scan as a t-pose at the very least.
  2. Try this, it will definitely make the render times longer but it's worth a try; Adaptive DMC = Min 2 Max 6 Untick Use DMC and set Clr Thresh to 0.003 Irrad Map -3, -1 and render every frame not every nth frame and create the Pre calcs with Pre-Animation and render using the Render Animation Modes. Tick Use Camera Path LC - Subdivs = 2000, Scale Screen, tick Pre Filter and tick Use LC for glossy rays. Tick Use Camera Path DMC Sampler - Adaptive Amount = 0.8, Noise Threshold = 0.003 Change the blur on your texture map to 1.0 If you have glossy reflection set the sub divs to 12 to 18 or above but not too much. How are you lighting you scene ? Is it with a Dome light ? I tend to avoid this due to higher render times and noiser results. Whatever light you use it is worth increasing the shadow sub divs - I would suggest initially doubling it. Hope this helps.
  3. The free instance I setup was for another purpose which isn't processor intensive and yes the spec of that free instance is very basic and not for 3D rendering. How many machines did you install max and vray on ? What was your setup time on the whole process ? I assume it will be quicker next time for you.
  4. I setup a single free instance on AWS for other purposes and found it quite complex - how you get them to render Max and Vray files is beyond me, do you have to setup max and vray on one of their machines ?
  5. This is really nice stuff Will, thanks for sharing ! The renders look great also.
  6. I tried the standard 30 day payment years ago and found it to be detrimental to our cash flow and business so decided to get rid of it. I didn't know how clients would react to our new payment policy but as it turned out when we mentioned it at the outset, it has never been a problem. For first time clients yes, pay on delivery - as they are an unknown quantity - repeat clients are different. If we have a good working relationship then by all means we will get into a payment rhythm which suites both of us. Tom, do you ever scan people with your Artec ?
  7. Cash flow is very important to a small company so, if you let them take their time to make payment then they will do that. If the matter is brought up at the beginning of the project (I have never experienced alienating a client because of this) then you can arrange for payment as close to the completion of the project as possible. It might not be on the same day that the project is completed but at least you know it has been actioned and is in their next round of payments.
  8. Fortunately, bad clients are in the minority but a contract is essential aswell as a clear email trail of decisions and instructions. If a client decides not to pay there is little you can do except drag yourself through a legal process which someone has already mentioned would be more expensive than the money you are trying to get back so basically, forget it. The best approach is to get a deposit and implement staged payments if the project is big enough. And never do the 30 day payment thing - whoever came up with that idea should be shot - pay on delivery. If you spend some time at the beginning of the project setting out how the project will progress and when the client should receive updated imagery/animations I have found this to be by far the best way to do business. If they begin to change time frames or the design always follow this up with a confirmation email listing all aspects of the changes - it takes a few minutes but might save hours or days of misunderstanding down the line.
  9. I have a 550D and its great but if I was going to upgrade it would be to one of the newer full frame sensor Canons. Everything after that is down to how much money you want to spend and the specific purpose you are using the camera for. In the past I have posted on the DP Review forum and found it quite good on steering me in the right direction. If you could get a face to face with a local pro photographer, that would be helpful aswell.
  10. Top of the list is food, you need to come to some form of balance with it and I would suggest making your own as much as possible. The gym is good, if you find it boring - do classes, they will push you much further than you would have gone by yourself. Get a sport, football, tennis, swimming, running, karate - whatever, you need something that focuses your mind. My sports are surfing and kitesurfing but don't get anywhere near enough time to do them. Last is something that I highly recommend is self hypnosis - this is when you listen to audio tracks which focus on whatever you want to work on - confidence, relaxation, productivity, weight loss etc... It might sound silly but our sub-conscience/un-conscience plays a massive roll in our lives and most people never engage it. It's powerful stuff and would recommend you have a look online.
  11. If I understand you correctly, you would be better using photogrammetry to scan the items to get them into a 3D program.
  12. If you post some renders and settings that would help us give you suggestions.
