thanks,

Hi, i am learning mental ray and was wondering if anyone could let me know why this brick bump map is not appearing in my rendered image even when put up to 10 (Max)?
thanks for that, i still cant log on to mrmaterials though i can half log on to 3dallusions but it wont let me post anything either.
my username is jonnypoland also and email is jonnypoland@hotmail.com i would greatly appreciate any help
Hi has anyone else had problems registering onto the mrmaterials.com website? i have just come accross it and want to use some of the materials for a uni project but never get a comfirmation email for registration. Does anyone have any other good links for mental ray materials resources?
thanks for the replys.
the one other thing i was wondering is how difficult C4D is to use. Realisticly how long will it take me to learn how to create decent rendered images and are there many tutorials available?
Hi all i have just had a look at the Archexteriors cinema 4d package and was very impressed.
I am an architecture student and am thinking about moving to mac.
i use archicad for drawing/modeling and put the models into max/vray for rendering. this is not great for use on a mac because i dont really see the point in running windows on a mac.
Is cinema 4D the solution? does anyone know if archicad models can be imported in it? also how long will it take me to learn rendering techniques on it?
finally am i correct in assuming that it can render with vray?
any insight would be greatly appreciated!
thanks for that i wasnt aware that programs could "multithread" so that now clarifys my querie with multiple processors.
although i love everything about macs i think i am going to have to go with a PC as it seems i can get more for my money even if it is in an uglier package!
I am currently looking for a new desktop to buy before starting my post grad dip in architecture in sept
i mainly use archicad for all modeling/drawing work and photoshop for post archicad. i have been experimenting with 3ds max and have had a few reasonable renderings through vray and am keen to use it more.
performance is key here i want a fast computer.
here is the dilemma:
my budget is strictly £1500.00
i would really like a mac but as the mac pro is too expensive this only leaves the 24" dual 3Ghz imac which costs £1389.00 i am really tempted by this but think this must be crazy when i can get a quad processor dell for the same price.
i would love to know what you guys and girls would do in my situation.
thanks,
jonny
thanks everyone for your help.
Kippu - i am a newbie to all this so please forgive my probably stupid questions but what is a reflection pass and how do i create one?
and how would i combine this reflection pass in PS? would there not be the same problem of the reflections and the background being inseperable?
i have heard if you save the image as a targa file you can then easily input a background in PS how does this work? When i open my targa in PS it just looks the same as any other image. should something be different?
hi could any one offer me some help on how i would go about making the background in this image darker?
it is a jpeg mapped onto a plane outside the window.
its a very low res pic but i think you will get the idea
cheers
jonny
Hi i am currently looking for a new desktop before i go back to uni for my architecture dip.
does anyone have any advice on what i should buy?
I want the fastest machine my money can buy.
The software i use are:
ACAD Arch
Archicad 11
3DSMax
Vray
Pshop
Illustrator
my budget is around £1200 i have looked on dells website and it seems to buy a desktop with a really fast processor it will always come with v fast graphics card when i have been led to believe that above 256mb is not needed outside of gaming? i also have been looking at the mac pro.
