or just right click on the view on the sheet, and select activate view. You can then adjust the crop region (if you have it turned on) right on the sheet. hth, Z
  3. Turn on the "crop region" under veiw properties. hth, Z
  4. they work fine for us with both viz 2005 and Max 8. We used vray 1.46.x through 1.47.03. They worked fine, wind and all.
  5. Any import you make will be static, so no constraints. You *could* create several versions of the object in the package of you choice then make sperate families for each of them, then nest them into another famiy and swap them out interactive via the family type selector parameter.... but..you will run into graphi display issues and the like. you are MUCH better off just modeling them in revit. It gets fast once you get the hang of it -Z
  6. Yes, of course, you don't have to use it, but think of how much faster you can get animations done using a baked solution. We're talking about cutting massive amounts of render time out. We could not even concieve of doing an animation without some kind of prebaked solution. If we were to consider Maxwell, it was have to support this, and be about 20 times faster than it is now. I know speed isn't everything, but in the arch-viz world, it's darn close.
  7. Everything that has ever been said by chaos on the subject has been a resounding YES. Everyone will get 1.5 for free.
  8. Where did the DWG originate from? Plain autocad, adt, or revit? There is a known issue with revit 8.x based dwg files and failure to maintain a material type change during reload. Work around is to save out Matlib, reload, and update all scene materials from saved matlib. If that's not it, then try checking the two boxes in the image below from the FLM settings. hth, Z
  9. CRD, you might want to check your import settings. I just checked our largest job which is just a hair under 2 million faces (detailed model of three midrise buildings on 12 city blocks). The object count was 17,000 total for all linked dwgs. hth, -Z
  10. I've never really noticed it as a problem, but then again, I've never modeled anything in viz from scratch, so i guess my expectations are not high. The scenes can get heavy, but I've never had one that is unworkable. We always link, because there are always changes We use vray, so that helps as well. Vray doesn't seem to care as much about large scenes, heavy geometry, etc. I've thrown some gigantic scenes at vray and it always renders them.
  11. We have a couple of 1U dual xeons from these guys: http://www.siliconmechanics.com/ They have been rock solid, and the customer service has been excellent.
  12. Very nice. Minor things: I think the pool is filled up a bit too high for my taste , like if somone jumped in, the water would splash over the sides. If you lower it, you'll show off a bit more of the tile. I agree about the sky, it's a bit too saturated for my taste. Also the wall in the background needs some plants on the other side of it, right now it's kind of hard to distinguish it from a infinite ground plane to goes off into the horizon. keep up the good work. -Z
  13. Wow, what a wild ride!!! This has been a great thread, thanks for taking us along. The image is fantastic, well done.
