  1. Hi, I have had that same problem in the past mainly in max 2014 because they introduced the no gamma thing, the only way i fixed it is by using the Vray bitmap to VrayHDRI converter ( https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/VRAY3MAX/V-Ray+Bitmap+Texture+|+VRayHDRI ) see bottom of the page. that works for me everytime
  2. Don't know if this will help but i came across this problem just a couple of days ago and for me it was because one of the nodes was not picking up the hdri file i was using because it was on drive that was improperly mapped ... as soon as it could find the file the problem stopped ...
  3. Hi ... for your alpha channel problem just right click on the image in the preview window (on browser mode not on tab) and uncheck use alpha channel ... or just hit Ctrl+H
  4. XnView is free, open source and full of goodies, maybe it will fit your need regarding your window settings.

    State Sets

to my knowledge they were only available in the Subscripton Advantange Pack in 2012 ... in was introduced as a permanent feature in 2013 .. bugs included ..
  6. my vote goes to XnView .... it's free/open source and has a lot of built-in functionalities like batch rename, batch convert, resize and so on and so forth ... there's even a mac version ... sometimes it's even my best friend
  7. Hi all .... just wanted to share my own experience with max 2014 (SP1 installed).. earlier i asked about state sets ... well, they (autodesk) did it again. It's hard to believe but they made the state stes even more unstable, now when i open a max2013 scene in 2014 i have to redo all the state sets because if i try to change any kind of setting (with the record button on) it dosen't record anything ... i complained to autodesk but i'm still waiting for their excuse. The other wonderful thing they did is take out the ''Output Gamma'' for bitmaps in the Gamma/Lut menu ... i'm rendering tons of pngs with transparancy, it now applies the gamma 2.2 a second time when saving the image ... dosen't do the same thing if i save to jpeg. so, thank you Autodesk ... again
  8. Looks like there is some hope with 2014 ... Any of you tried the state sets? Is the feature more stable that in the previous version?
  9. Hi all, i was wondering if any of the people who tried max 2014 add the chance to test the ''state sets''. I really had high hopes for this feature when it came out but it turn out to be, well, unstable to say the least. I felt it was going to help me manage big exterior scenes ( like the render layers in Maya ) but it only create a new degree of frustration towards max. So, i would love to have any kind of feedback from you guys on this feature before even considering upgrading to 2014. many thanks
  11. Not sure what you are looking for, but if you're looking for the vray mats, they seem to be available only for the wood volume 1 to 3.
  12. My first computer was a TRS-80 coco1 that my dad bought at radio-shack some 25 years ago or so. You add to plug a tape/cassette recorder to make the simplest thing work, remember the time before floppy disks?. I remember spending day to code what was to be a kickass game, just to find out that it was just a bunch on Xs an Os running around.
  13. Not sure if that's what you are looking for but maybe it could help http://cg.tutsplus.com/tutorials/chaos-group-vray/compositing-v-ray-render-layers-in-photoshop/ cheers
  14. Hi, I would suggest Handbrake http://handbrake.fr . It does a great job at compressing without apparent quality loss. I mostly use it to go from uncompressed avi to mp4 format. hope this helps
  15. All I can say is that these are the best textures you will ever find on the web. The quality is equal to none. I use them all the time and they are a real timesaver, plus, it makes your work look great. You can now even download 3dsmax/Vray materials for some packs (ex: wood volume one). IMO it"s a must have.
