  1. Hey all! I was a regular here for a long time but took a break from the industry for a while. I'm now getting back into the business again after a few year layoff and I can't believe what I have forgotten! Even the most basic things. Perhaps its because I'm 56 now. But once I see a technique again, I'm like "holy shit, I remember" and it comes right back. I need to ramp up my skills again pretty quickly but I'm getting overwhelmed by all the tutorials out there and don't know where to begin. Can anyone recommend a really good single tutorial, set of tutorials or Making-Of video that is detailed enough to get the cob webs out of my old brain and help get me back up to speed? Something organised and hopefully has the support and asset files included. I'd like a tutorial that goes all the way from scene setup all the way to final render. I'm using Max 2015 and Vray 3.0. Thanks for any advice! Dan
  2. Quite right Tommy. I don't want to subcontract work out... I have had an impossible time finding a partner that can produce the quality that my clients require. I would also NOT pass a client on to a potential competitor. My input would always be there. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  3. I understand.... Yes what I would really like to have is a partner. My problem is that it's feast or famine like I previously stated. I will go a week or 2 with no work and then all of a sudden, in one day, 4 clients will contact me needing renderings. So either I'm doing nothing or I have to turn down work simply because of the timing. It's very frustrating. I can't pay someone a salary because it's only me and my cashflow is like a roller coaster. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  4. What I would really like to do is find someone local that can work directly with me. But I have not had any luck as of yet finding someone good. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  5. No reason so insult me. I'm a one man operation and it's feast or famine. I'm recently lost my associate who went on to entirely different career. Now I'm on my own and have to turn people away, which I really can't afford to do. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  6. Great to be busy, but I hate turning away work. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  7. I am a freelance 3d artist/visualizer in NY that needs an extra pair of SKILLED hands quickly. I'm currently working on 2 projects, which is already too much, and have 2 more that want proposals for quick turn around. Quality work is a must. I need help fast or I will lose the jobs. 8. I have to place an existing model into a scene that has a background image which needs to be perspective matched into. It one thing setting up perspective match and building within, but I am having trouble setting up the scene when placing a building in. When I place the building in and then use perspective match, the building flies off the screen. I was thinking of using perspective match and building a simple box that has the dimensions of the building and then aligning the building to the box. Is this a possible solution or is there something I am missing? Another thing that makes it tough is that I use a vray camera, not the standard free camera. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  9. Well, I uninstalled vray on the slaves with a problem and it fixed the problem.
  10. I have a test scene with a simple white override material, vray plane lights and a vray camera....nothing else. A couple of my slave machines are rendering the buckets completely wrong (way over bright). See image below. My host and 1 slave are rendering correctly. I cannot figure out what is wrong. Has anyone encountered this problem and is there a fix??
  11. Thanks for that thorough explanation. The deadline for this is end of February and they do want a few people. Based on your input, I am going to advise against an animation. The fact is, I am not set up to produce a production quality piece in such a tight schedule. The time frame is tight for even quality stills. Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  12. Thanks for the input. That's very helpful Sent from my SM-N900V using Tapatalk
  13. My work has always involved stills in the past. My client has asked me to do a 60 second walk through of the space indicated below. The image also has the camera path indicated. The cam will tour the grand room & recreation lounge, then onto the fitness center and model apartment. This is a typical render job in that I have to create furnishings, textures, lighting, etc...normal stuff for the entire space. The difference is that I have to do the 60 sec walk through. How would you advise me to price out the animation? I have no idea what a 1 min animation should cost. https://www.dropbox.com/s/xdygi5nq1m0xsiq/walk%20through.jpg
  14. Clive, thanks for the response. I have tried everything but to no avail. i have been using multi texures with dr for a long time and have never had this problem before.
  15. The rest of the image is ok...below is the bucket problem. Nothing I do seems to reslove. Has anyone run into this before?
