  1. They actually don't use real leather. It's called "ultraleather" and it lasts longer than cloth and passes the FAA burn requirements (don't want your butt on fire!) Maybe the leather texture is too small?
  2. Hey all, I'm working on an interior of an ERJ-190. I can finally post some things that aren't protected by NDAs. Right off the bat, I can see that I'm going to have to probably remodel the seat cushion that I got from the engineers, its looking a bit too stiff. I did a bit of post in PS. I also ran these on a lower setting, so there's a bit of blotchyness on the bins. Please comment!
  3. I like it so far. However, I think the SUV is running too close to the edge of the image and I find it distracting. Maybe move it a little further back or tilt the camera slightly down so there's a bit of street between the wheels and the edge of the frame.
  4. Looks like it was probably the nvidia maxstream driver. Put me in the Do Not Use It group.
  5. Hey guys, I've been working with an extremely heavy model (13 mil+ polys) in Design 2010 64-bit. Now, usually during the loading process, it seems like max becomes stuck in some sort of endless loop where it keeps trying to refresh all the 3ds-related windows, never giving you control of the scene (at least this is the only visible symptom). I eventually just have to force quit. Occasionally it will not do this and then I can work on the scene, maybe 1/10 attempts. I've tried to split up the model into xrefs, but even some of those run into this issue. I'm running a quad Xeon 3.2 Ghz with 8gig ram and a Quadro FX4600 w/ maxstream driver on Win7. Thanks for any suggestions.
  6. You might want to experiment with the focal length of the camera. Looks like you're about 50mm maybe? Try something lower like 35mm, the added perspective will draw the viewer into the composition more. If you go too low, however, things start to look a bit wacky.
  7. What have you guys seen as far as more speed when upgrading to 64-bit? I went from Max 2009 + Vray 1.5sp2 in XP to Max 2010 + Vray 1.5sp4 in Win7. It seems that calculating phases are faster, but the actual render times of my scenes don't seem to have changed in any noticeable way.
  8. Great first scene! One thing that stuck out for me was the mapping of the wood texture on the picture frame. It's close enough to the camera that more attention to detail would be appreciated. The wood grain should run lengthwise on every section of the frame, not crosswise on the vertical pieces.
  9. I saw a tutorial once that made use of the VRayDisplacementModifier, I think it works quite well. However, it will crash max if you get too big with it.
  10. No problems either. Just make sure coworkers don't steal it from your computer thinking it's a flash drive...
  11. Again, I agree with what has been said. I also think that you lose some realism with sharp corners. Very few things in the world have the truly sharp edges that 3ds makes. I would say the towel rack needs radiused edges of 1/16" and it would really look great. I think the sink counters edges might need just a bit more roundness as well. Overall, though great stuff!
  12. Thanks! I'm normally a mac guy...
  13. Hey guys, I'm hoping I put this in the right forum. Is there a way to tell Max/Vray to not use one of my processors? It would be nice to have one open so I can use Catia and Adobe while doing test renders during the day. Is this a Windows issue? I have no idea. Thanks!
  14. so I figured it out, but I couldn't find the delete button for this thread, sorry for leaving it up moderators...
  15. I would suggest that you drop the lens flares, they tend be gaudy and unrealistic looking.
