  1. That's it!! Thank you! I feel stupid for not trying that but I was already tired of trying and not getting it working. Thanks again!
  2. Maybe its what you say about not enough noise, but by raising the noise threshold and getting a lot of noise in the RGB pass, the VrayDenoiser pass still comes out as a FULL black image. Already tried changing the strengh and radius. When you add the VrayDenoiser element and render, a lot of other render channels get also added in the VFB. One of those channels -noiseLevel- is a black image with diferent shades of gray spots where noise is. But the VrayDenoiser channel (or pass) comes out black, where it should be a denoised version of the RGB pass.
  3. I have my settings set to default! Instead of replacing the RGB element, it stores the denoised result in a new element, which in my case comes out completely black. I tried changing it to waht you said and my RGB pass came out black. I also tried hitting the update button and nothing changes. I think this is only meant to adjust your VrayDenoiser settings after you have rendered the image and want to see the difference.
  4. Nope, I'm always getting a full black image for the Denoiser pass. Maybe it depends on the amount of noise detected? I don't know what I'm doing wrong and I have already gave up trying. Too much time wasted already..
  5. Hi, I'm trying out vray 3.40 and I can't figure out how to use the new VrayDenoiser Element. I tried adding it with it's default settings, and when the render is done and I switch to this element, it's completely black. Shouldn't I see a denoised version of the RGB pass? Am I doing something wrong? Thanks
  6. Nope, you understood it the other way round. Positive values would take more time. For animations you can save the Imap to a file but it must be set to "multiframe incremental" mode and in common parameters set the every nth frame to 5 or 10 (depending on the speed the camera is moving). Doing this would calculate the Imap of the animation for every 5th or 10th frame.. http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help/150SP1/tutorials_imap2.htm http://www.timsportfolio.co.uk/tutorials/vray-gi/
  7. You could try changing the Noise Threshold, under DMC Sampler to it's default value 0.01. And the HSph suvdivs under Irradiance map could be lower, maybe around 50-60.
  8. haha we have the same technology in a train station in Buenos Aires, but it's quality is a LOT lower. It's quite shameful.
  9. I can't remember exactly how I came to know the problem was memory related but i'm almost certain that max displayed the error message you just described or something similar. I also can't remember if max crashed or if just rendering couldn't be done (with an error message displayed). I checked how much memory 3ds max was using and it was almost 2GB. With the rest being used by system, it wasn't enough. I'll have to check on the same pc this weekend because it's in my parents house. As soon as I have some more info I'll let you know and maybe another issue can be added to the list. Thanks!
  10. I think that little to none users would say we don't need a guide. There's no harm to it. Wouldn't it be better to start listing issues and solutions here and when a handful of tips have been posted we can start talking about the ebook? One problem I recently had which I couldn't solve was a small scene I was trying to render and max crashed due to no memory available. The scene was quite simple and I wasn't using any fancy models nor materials. The output image wasn't huge either, but it seems 2GB of RAM is not enough in some cases. I googled a lot and couldn't solve it by changing output image dimensions, vray settings or increasing windows pagefile. Had to switch to a pc with 4GB of RAM. Any tips on this?
  11. No problem! I guess that with other users experience and feedback you can sort and order all your tips and start working on that ebook.
  12. Please share everything you can in this matter. I think it would be very helpful to a lot of us. I didn't know that simple tip you just gave. Thanks
  13. Haha, I don't like to put pictures of myself. I'm much comfortable with an over exposed and overcontrasted one!
  14. I'm no expert in this matter or nothing alike, but in my last interior I used VraySun (+ Sky), set at 0.06 intensity. I also placed vray lights in my two windows, with their intensity set to 2 and 3. I also added a vray light to the ceiling, with intensity set at 1, to a spot where I needed a little more light. Then lastly, I used a regular max camera (not vray) with its default settings.
